Hi need some advice and if anyone has been through something similar. Due to being homeless the council has give me a flat which I am so great full for and have tried to make it my home. The issues I have had is the batheroom and kitchen ceiling is leaking almost every day. Today had a large puddle in both rooms. Iv called council a few times the check electrics and go away. The issue is not getting resolved. My question is who can I go to to make sure the issue gets sorted. Its literally a shower room in my kitchen at the moment. The council don't seem to help. How do I sort this.

Take photos and videos, rack up your evidence and get straight on the phone to your local MP. Contact your local paper. The Mp will get it sorted though.

I’m assuming you’re a council tenant and not in temporary accommodation?

Document everything with photos and keep a diary of what happened when, eg ‘on X date at Y time I saw a puddle and reported to person Z on xxxxxx number at XZ time.’

Check your tenancy agreement for details who to report repairs to. Ideally do it via email and if you have to call, write down the date, time and name of the person you speak to. I know they’re aware but you need to do it every time as they don’t seem to be working on finding the underlying cause?

If your tenancy agreement doesn’t have this info, there should be something on the council’s web site.

Your landlord should investigate what’s causing this issue. It’s probably either a leak or condensation- they should be investigating and fixing.

Here’s a bit more info:

Do you mean the gist above is leaving down into your bathroom and kitchen?

Elieza · 07/06/2024 19:47

Flat. Not gist

And leaking not leaving.

Sigh. Damn plaster on my thumb is a pest.

Have you spoken to the tenants in the flat above? They may have a leak and not realise.

Technically you don’t have an MP at the moment - an election has been called

Thank you all for you help I truly appreciate it. I'm trying to do what I can to make a home for me and my girl after fleeing domestic abuse. These leaks are the last thing I needed, they gave been ongoing, council come inspect and that's it nothing to resolve the issue.
