Ring Doorbell

essgee91 · 05/06/2024 08:06

I'm going to be moving into a new property on my own soon after a relationship breakdown and can't afford a full security system at the moment so was intending on buying Ring doorbells for back and front door.

Just wondering if anyone has any other recommendations or if Ring are the best option.

Thanks!

If you want it to record all the time these are quite good https://www.currys.co.uk/products/tplink-tapo-c100-full-hd-1080p-wifi-security-camera-10214124.html

We've got a google Nest so that's another option
Cameras are on the same app as the heating

I have a full ring eco system and have no regrets. I like that you can build it up slowly a piece at a time so you don’t need to get it all at once - just like most systems I guess. We started with just the doorbell and now have six cameras and the 11 piece alarm kit. The battery can drain quite quickly if you have the sensitivity set high, but it’s a 6 hour or so charge. You can get wired and solar options if that will be an issue - we just leave it on overnight to charge once every six weeks or so. There is also a subscription to get all the benefits, but at 8 quid a month including the active assisted alarm monitoring I think it’s great value for money. It also stores your footage in the cloud for six months I think it is which has been useful a few times when helping neighbours with footage for the police of a break in as an example. I think for the single device it’s about 3 quid a month, so the cost of a coffee.

Don’t know much about the system linked to above, but seems to need a memory card. Although this means no subscription of course, the cost could add up if you buy more and need more memory cards. Also, I wouldn’t want the storage to be physically in the camera as if someone breaks in they can just destroy or steal the camera and there goes your footage. Uploading to cloud storage solves that issue. I guess you’ll get a range of views here on the best setup but I’m a happy ring customer personally.

You can store recordings on your phone/tablet.

I like the ring doorbell. You can use it just for live views if you don't want to pay a subscription.

We bought in march. Added a solar charger and haven't needed to physically charge it at all yet.

We have since added an outdoor camera and pay the £80 subscription just to keep the videos.

I find it really manageable and easy to navigate on the app.

We originally bought a Ring setup but as others have said to record you need to pay a subscription and you're at their mercy for annual price hikes....they have a history of being way above inflation and in my view take advantage of people who are "locked" into their eco system.

I binned it and got Tapo as mentioned above, they also have a subscription system with cloud storage but you can use local storage for no additional charge. I would recommend Tapo if cost (dont like to feel ripped off) is a concern
