We’ve been in our home for 33 years now and this week our house went onto the market! We’ve been planning to move for about an year but it was so surreal seeing the photos of your home on rightmove.

Looking to downsize into a bungalow into our forever home - seems like the market is slow moving at the moment though!!! Argh!!!

Wishing you all the best for your move OP.

We did a big move in lockdown, we had lived in our house for 18 years, downsized and relocated. We live in a bungalow now, much easier for me to have a much smaller home and a bungalow, as I have MS. We did not look at any properties until we had sold our house SSTC, as we were not in a position to proceed until we sold our house (we bought cash from sale) also we were moving 3+hrs from where we lived. I was constantly refreshing RM though! As soon as we found our buyer, for the next couple of weekends we were away and viewing. We found a wonderful bungalow that we love, don’t plan on moving again.

The market was different when we moved than it is today, I have a couple of friends that are trying to sell at the moment, unfortunately they aren’t having a lot of luck. Just seems to be general apathy in the market atm, interest rates, COL & GE aren’t helping. I hope you find a buyer very soon. My advice would be to start clearing things that you don’t want to take to your new home, we found lots of baby equipment in an unused wardrobe 😂 forgot it was there! When you live in a big house you tend to keep things as you have space too.

Yes! Just had an offer we've accepted but there is very little out there to buy. Planned on viewing a house which came on RM but viewing is only 1 day and we are away.
Back to the drawing board!
Horrible process.

Were moving too after 24 years! Just about to go on the market. We’re moving to a different city so it’s triggering a lot of, well a kind of minor grief I guess. Big feelings all round.

I’ve very recently sold! We decided to go into rented to reduce the stress of selling in a chain and we’ve just had an offer accepted on a property to buy. The sale was stressful and took a very long time but we got a Good price (over asking!) so it all worked out. Good luck!

DrySherry · 30/05/2024 07:14

The market itself is not really slowing, its just that achievable prices are lower. Price it right and you will still get offers quickly.
Zoopla claimed yesterday that the number of homes for sale is now the highest it has been since 2016 - so look carefully at your local competitors, don't price too optimistically and be ready to negotiate. Plenty of active buyers out there. It's just they can't borrow as much these days - now that interest rates have returned to a more normal level.

We are in the process of buying a nice two bed bungalow with a big garden. We’re in our forties looking to upsize but our competition were a lot of retired folk looking to downsize. It was a really competitive landscape, nice bungalows in good plots are quite desirable around here (Peak District). If you are viewing before you have an offer on yours, don’t fall in love with any, as you’ll probably miss out. Speaking from experience!

OneDayIWillLearn · 30/05/2024 07:46

Yes in the process. We’ve only been in ours 5 years but we intended to be there a lot longer when we bought it and have done a lot of work with that in mind so I feel pretty emotional about moving away! The transition of thinking of your home as a home to thinking of it as something you are trying to sell someone is very disorienting and I suppose there is a bit of grief about letting go of what I thought was going to be.

our onward move is really exciting though (as well as nerve wracking!) so I’m trying to stay focused on that.

OhFensa · 30/05/2024 08:20

Yes we’ve only been here ten years but my mood is really low as I’m very sad to be leaving it. We’re doing the right thing as we couldn’t stay here forever, but our neighbours are great friends and we really loved the community here. We’re only moving ten miles away but it won’t be the same. At least the couple we’re selling to are lovely and they will fit right in.

Notatthemoment · 30/05/2024 08:41

Bungalows are always in high demand but would urge you to take your time. We bought our family up in our last house and moved here a couple of years ago as on paper it was an ideal downsize. However my husband's health has drastically declined changing our priorities so we're off again. I can't wait to go as we have some awful neighbours which makes all the hassle a no brainier even though we're going to be out of pocket.
We're having a property built which gives a bit of time to play with but if we don't get a buyer lined up in the next few months we'll reduce until it goes.
Good luck!

I agree bungalows are extremely popular, not just with downsizers but also young families.

Stressedoutforever · 30/05/2024 12:20

We went on the market last Thursday as we saw our dream home.. had an offer accepted on ours and conveyancing starting
Feel really weird about it but know its better for our young children!

bellamountain · 30/05/2024 15:38

We have accepted an offer on ours but there is literally nothing out there we want to buy. Really frustrating.

NoshowTuesday · 30/05/2024 22:00

Selling for the second time in 3 years

Sold our home of ten years just after Covid to relocate to ‘dream town’. Took about three months to get an offer then was a super speedy two weeks from offer to completion as buyer wanted to give the house as a Xmas gift (WTAF?!)!

After a year renting in ‘temporary town’ we bought a house in ‘dream town’. Quickly realised ‘dream town’ absolutely not right for us and are now back on the market and hoping to (eventually) buy in ‘temporary town’.

Feels like we’re back to square one with a slower market and less money and less patience with estate agents 😫
