Is this suspicious

Could be.
Depends.

DrJonesIpresume · 26/05/2024 19:34

Maybe not. Could be a couple who bought somewhere together and have split up.

spottedinthewilds · 26/05/2024 19:36

Could be something like rubbish sound proofing

We bought a house that had been on the market less than 2 years previously. The owners, a couple, had split up.

Yes - for a flat I would be concerned about noise and soundproofing.

Muddle200 · 26/05/2024 19:44

Noise etc not an issue Could be structural

One reason the flat is on the market is pregnancy. People generally prefer a house to a flat when they start family.

The owner could have come into an inheritance or got a promotion and want something bigger.

They could be relocating for work.

Perhaps they are splitting up. When I was house hunting, I stopped asking why the vendors were selling because the response was always that they were splitting up.

They may have never lived in a flat before and miss having a garden.

The owner may actually have died and it’s being sold by family.

Of course, it could just be an absolute money pit and the people in the other flats are the neighbours from hell.

Neighbour.

I put my flat on the market after 1.5years as I didn’t like the area as much as I thought I would and it was a nightmare to get to places I needed to get to. But you only realise these things once you start loving somewhere.

Family member bought a flat after single owner had only had it for 18 months. They had met someone in that time and that was why they were selling. The vendor went on to buy a house together. It was a great flat.

LostMySocks · 26/05/2024 22:38

Sold my first flat after less than 2 years. I had a relocation for work.

Muddle200 · 27/05/2024 07:08

They are moving to a new build

Not necessarily suspicious but I'd want to know more. I once viewed a flat that was on the market only 6 months after it had last been sold, and naturally I had questions - but it turned out the lady had bought it for her son, who had then merrily announced he was staying in Thailand or wherever it was he'd been travelling, so she'd had to hold onto it empty for six months before she could put it back on the market.

(I did not buy the flat, largely because that empty six months had done nothing to stop it smelling very strongly of smoke and highlighted how difficult that would be to resolve - but that was another issue entirely.)
