Considerable noise. Don’t do it.

I live in a house like this (not even a large garden(, you get used to it. Just like trains, airplanes etc.

Depends

Hoow perfect is the house?

How big is the garden? 200ft long or 80ft?

Is it Residential road or main high street?

Are there trees are the back or no?

all of these makes a big difference

It depends on the road - how busy is it, is it only busy at rush hour or all day, what is the speed limit etc. etc.

You can stand at the end of the garden for a while and observe.

Air pollution is also an important consideration.

We have a busy single carriage A road at the end of our long garden.

I can hear it. But it's just white noise really. I can also hear trees rustling, birds singing, aeroplanes overhead, a car passing on the quiet road at the front .... But if you asked at any time "can I hear the A road?" then the answer would always be yes.

Doesn't bother me at all. But the garden is very big. Might feel differently if I was in a small enclosed garden with the noise.

It's not something I could deal with, but the garden was my main priority when I bought my house - it may not be as important to you.

I don't think the size of the garden makes as much as a difference as buildings/trees blocking the noise, as my garden backs into a playing field, which then has a road running the other side. It's not the busiest road in the world and no buses, but I can still hear it despite being quite far away. I assume it's the open space allowing the noise to travel.

You'd obviously need to view it during a busy time to see if it's acceptable to you.

It wouldn't be for me and I wouldn't get used to it, and not want the risk of my pets getting out onto it - I know 100% DH wouldn't want it either - he likes listening to the birds in the garden too much. Everyone is different though and for you it could be the compromise to getting a great property. I think you need to have a couple of viewings at different times and ask to have a couple of mins outside on your own each time.

I wouldn’t buy a house like that personally but I’m quite noise sensitive

My consideration would be the bedrooms. I lived on a main road with buses and in the summer it was not great when the windows were open overnight.

On a viewing I'd open the windows and see what the noise is like. You will find when they are closed it will be minimal and convince yourself this is ok.
