Bathroom tile panic

newbathroomtiles · 20/05/2024 12:39

Having our bathroom done, work started today, I'm very excited.

Having a last minute panic because we've chosen small tiles like the ones pictured for the whole room including around the shower and bath.

I've read it's better to have bigger tiles and less grout in wet areas.

Have we made an error? Is it bad enough that I need to source some emergency tiles?

We love the ones we've chosen.

Help!

i have metro tiles in my bath/shower. After 10 years the grout is looking grimy BUT I am married to a farmer and im not the best at keeping the house clean when I am busy at work.

So if your husband is fairly clean and you do the bathroom more than a thorough clean once a month and a quick wipe in between then you will be fine I think.

DizzyBumble · 20/05/2024 12:53

what colour grout have you chosen?

newbathroomtiles · 20/05/2024 14:35

@DizzyBumble we haven't chosen yet. What's the correct answer😂

We've just done ours in near exact tiles to the one you've chosen, it looks gorgeous and it never crossed my mind about f

*posted too soon!

It never crossed my mind about grout, we chose white grout by the way and it looks lovely 😊 just keep on top of the grime with a regular scrub of the tiles and you'll be fine

Houseplantmad · 20/05/2024 14:40

Go for it. You can get a spray from Screwfix to protect the grouting. I put it on every so often and ours look great.

Ooh. This is did not know! Handy.

Those aren't what I'd call tiny tiles.
If you'd gone for mosaic tiles all oer the bathroom, I'd maybe rethink. I'd say those are a fairly standard tile size - although much bigger are available.

If you love them, keep them.

prettybird · 20/05/2024 15:36

It depends on the colour of your grouting. In the advice of our tiler, we went with a light grey.

I've just taken this picture, exactly as is. The bathroom was done nearly 3 years ago and I'll admit that I'm not the most assiduous of cleaners Blush

It still looks as good as new Grin if you ignore the silicone seal with the shower tray at the bottom Blush really must attack it with a bicarbonate of soda paste Wink

This was taken a couple of weeks ago Smile - more of the tiling with the grey grout above the bath. Works even though all the accent colours are white.

Consider Kerapoxy grout in wet areas or better still - whole bathroom. It is a polymer (plastic) and doesn't absorb water, dirt or mould spores like traditional cement based grouting does. We have 2 dogs and cream tiles with matching Kerapoxy grouting downstairs, still as good as new!

Oooh amazing thanks so much. Great advice and I definitely need to look into the screw fix spray.

We've just had metro tiles in our bathroom on all four walls. We were told dont go for white grouting as it will go grimy and yellow quite quickly. We went with light grey grout and it looks lovely.

I totally see that this makes sense, the only thing is I really don't want grey grout it won't match the rest of the room.

I'll have to have a think.

Thank you though!

lol, i'd go with a light grey but your tiler is usually the one to ask on this

Toomuch44 · 21/05/2024 11:02

Nice tiles. Obviously, grout does attract buildup over the years, so the more you've got the more you'll get. You can get different colours of grout which might not be so obvious re staining. Might also be worth asking the tiling supplier and installer for any solutions.

We've hoping to have our bathroom done later in the year, so interesting to know about the grout sealant.

Those tiles are lovely .We had our family bathroom done with metro tiles and in shower a mix of them and smaller jewel tiles.5 yrs later they still look like new .We clean bathroom weekly.Have the tiles you want !!

Twiglets1 · 22/05/2024 06:51

We chose jasmine grout and it looks great.

My daughter chose two different coloured grouts in different areas of her bathroom & her tiler did them the wrong way round while she was out. They did their best to remedy the situation but it still doesn’t look quite perfect if you look closely & she is a perfectionist so her advice would be stick with one colour grout!

newbathroomhelplease · 03/06/2024 22:39

We didn't end up changing anything and very happy with the result. Grout colour is called 'stone' it's a beigey colour.

Thanks all!
