Persimmon New Build- Almost everything is broken in the kitchen

Hello!

I’m wondering if anyone can offer any advice other than don’t buy a persimmon new build as it would be greatly appreciated

I moved into my new build persimmon home in march and it’s been nothing short of a disaster, particularly the kitchen.

Currently the extractor hood is not working as it’s been fitted incorrectly.

The gas is capped off as the hob has also been fitted incorrectly and was leaking carbon monoxide, incidentally the carbon monoxide alarm isn’t positioned appropriately so is essentially useless.

Over the weekend the dishwasher stopped working- 3 beeps which suggests the anti flood mechanism has been triggered and an engineer who attended has said this is due to incorrect installation.

So currently I can’t use the hob, oven, extractor hood or dishwasher in my kitchen and persimmon customer care just refuses to return my call so I’m no further forward in getting any of this resolved.

Does anyone have any experience of persimmon and getting them to resolve anything before I lose the will to live 😩?

Are they still building houses near you? If so, go round to the site office and speak to the site manager. Continue to be a thorn in their side until the issues are sorted. No one wants someone at their office door every morning complaining, so they'll make sure your issues are sorted out. In our experience, that was the most effective way to get things sorted quickly. They just ignore you if you call them.
In case you are worried about 'confrontation', that's not what needs to happen. Just be polite but firm, and dont let it go, or you'll end up out of pocket getting other people to sort the issues.

Hello! Are there still contractors working / a site manager on the site? Would it be possible to approach them directly and you might get the issues sorted a bit quicker if they are on site anyway?

Agree with being a nuisance for the site manager. Also suggest a snagging report if you're not already too late. Best £500 a friend of mine spent. Extractor fan wasn't connected to anything as a joist was in the way, crooked banisters, kitchen hob missing various fittings, dirt in between panes of double glazing, fascia boards not screwed down properly, carpets cut too short, garden not draining, driveway not level....and support to get it all fixed or compensated

There's probably other people on your site with problems, try putting a comment on FB about it in your community group. New houses are thrown up not built correctly these days and the trades aren't trained to a reasonable standard unfortunately.

JJathome · 20/05/2024 11:52

To be honest, I think you’d have been prepared for this, as their reputation is not secret. What was your plans to remedy the errors? If anyone local still working try them, alternatively you can always pay to repair everything and try to get the property functioning. Sadly it was always going to be this situation.

Sometimes the trades employed on newbuilds are people who have never done that kind of work before (and they are so young they have not done any kind of work before). I remember my friend's bil was employed on this basis. He was doing stuff that he didn't have a clue about. That's not to say some degree of training hasn't been done - but he had no practical experience whatsoever and was very young.

I would get it all documented, photographed etc and as a pp suggested, a snagging report.

@Coolblur is right. If your site is all sold now, go and find the closest Persimmon sales office near you and turn up on a Saturday morning when they are busy with prospective purchasers. Talk loudly. Be charming but loud. They will want to deal with you very speedily.

Put bad reviews on social media and sites like Trustpilot.

Big companies often respond better to being publicly shamed than privately complained to. Because it can affect future business.

Keepthosenamesgoing · 21/05/2024 07:14

Write to the CEO and tell them you'll also be writing to all the media too

TribeofFfive · 21/05/2024 07:19

Try social media. Sorry to say but they have an incredibly bad reputation and are largely avoided. Obviously too late now but try SM for more coverage and hopefully force them into action.

Very (incorrect) blanket statement about tradespeople there.

I really doubt sadly that will make a difference, persimmon is all over social media for years due to shoddy workmanship, one more won’t make a difference,

My bit of the estate is sold now but there is a Charles church development right next door with the same manager

I was aware of the reputation of persimmon however I joined the estate Facebook group when I was looking and everyone was nothing but complimentary. People had minor snagging issues of course but they were full of praise for the site manager and how quickly he rectified any issues, unfortunately between buying and completing the site manager left and the new one is less than efficient

I rang head office yesterday and submitted a complaint so should hopefully hear back today as per the complaints policy but we shall see. If not I’ll try a social media/trust pilot review

A snagging report is a good call too- I’ll arrange this asap.
