Bookcase in kitchen diner

Hi I think I know the answer to this but couldn't hurt to check.

We had a house plan to have a big bookcase in our dining room. This is for fiction books etc, not cookery books. We've now decided to knock through the dining room and kitchen and the cooker will be somewhere in the middle.

I've just realised how close the books and cooker will actually be and I'm worried about the books getting damaged, affected by moisture etc. has anyone got a bookcase in the kitchen and was it an issue? Also I'm thinking would grease travel that far? The light near the cooker is hard to keep clean and I wonder how much further it could travel. Any insights appreciated! Think I may need to redesign....

I have hada bookcase in my kitchen for the last 10 years. No problems

We have a bookcase in our kitchen diner, about 4m from the hob, it's fine. There's a "fall zone" of about 1.5m around a hob that tends to get greasy IME.

Lots of books in my kitchen too ... no problems at all.

If you're worried it could be a problem could you put glass doors on your book case?

Thank you everyone! That's great to know, maybe my original plan will work fine then. Plus the glass doors idea is a good one too, right plan A is back on.
