Kitchen Island Advice

Hello,

Any advice would be much appreciated and thanks in advance!

We're having an extension and new kitchen soon and trying to plan the kitchen. It's going to have a double sized island but we're not sure what should go on the island.

We don't want a big blank space but we don't want an hob on it because I want a range oven that will go against an external wall with an extractor fan above.

I know lots of people have sinks on the island but we're not the tidiest people and whenever you see photos on Instagram of sinks on islands they're completely immaculate and bare but I know that we won't put away the fairly liquid and hand soap each time and we have a baby so will have drying baby bottles lying around etc. I just think having all that mess on the island which is the focal point of the room will look awful.

I've suggested having a large sink tucked more away against a wall and then a smaller more fancy looking sink on the island that we just use for food prep, would that look silly having two sinks close to eachother?

Any other idea?

Thank you!!

@Orangemicrowave
we did exactly what you are thinking. We have a 3.8m island with part oak worktop (1.2 x 1.2m), where we sit and the remainder is quartz.
At the far end of the island, away from the seating area, we have a small prep sink that we use to wash fruit/veg, no washing up here so no clutter.
We have a 1.5 800mm sink on the run in the corner flanked by two dishwashers, one full size and one half, the latter mainly for weekday use (breakfast and dinner items), as we do all our cooking during the weekend.

I’m planning my kitchen atm and my island will be bare. Had many revisions of the plan with hob and sink combinations but I know I want somewhere for prep whilst looking at my family sat around it. Also, a fab place to do a large puzzle which we love doing together.

When we fitted our kitchen we decided to have a small sink on the island for food prep, which is opposite our drinks station so handy for filling our coffee machine & kettle. In the far left corner, well out of the way, and near the dishwasher, we have a full size sink, for the messy stages.
It works for us.
