Kitchen measures 7cm too short

We are in the process of measuring for a new kitchen (diy) and have found that the total length of our ushape window wall is 2720mm, the standard size cabinets (corner unit, 800 sink unit then another corner unit) is 2650mm so our walls are 70mm longer - 7cm.
Does this matter greatly? I am thinking each corner unit will just have to be 3.5cm in from the wall - but then are you going to have a gap down both sides of the kitchen, what do you do about that?

Units go back to the wall to maximise space, but corner units are usually designed to have space behind them. Plus no room is straight or square!

The worktop covers the gap at the back of a corner unit. Spacing panels the thickness of the unit carcass can be used to space things out to fill small gaps / create space in corners so drawers clear handles.

I think you're overthinking it (which is something I've certain done when having a kitchen done.

Are you planning it on the DIY kitchens or Ikea online planners? If not, it’s worth having a go, as you can play with different layouts and see where things like filler panels could help balance your space. They also automatically add in the voids, including the ones behind and next to corner units.

Our ‘U’ end wall would have been 20 cm wider than yours and every planner we went on recommended an L-shape or galley style instead.

Ikea’s planner is particularly useful for getting an idea of how useful or awkward the space will be once the cupboards are fitted. You can open cupboards in 3D mode and see where they will clash with the ones opposite, which can be the case with narrow u-shapes, especially with things like pull out corners. DIY Kitchens have more choice on unit size though and they do narrow depth units, including corner units, which I thought was a really good option. In our first house, a verrry long time ago, we ended up using wall units as base units with deep plinths, because our kitchen was so narrow.

We were lucky enough to be able to reconfigure the space in the end (currently going through an extension and renovation) but I do understand the hassle of trying to fit a useful kitchen into a relatively narrow space and found online planners really helpful.
