What colour do you have?
Has it lasted?
Where did you get it from?
Why do you love it/hate it?

Totally rats and slippy surface. I don’t have the funds to replace it at the moment, just ordered rat poison.
They can easily just dig under it and live there unnoticed until their numbers grow and you spot them.

So composite decking preferred?!

Regarding rats… Some people have decking on grass and others on concrete. Do the rats only like the decking on too of grass or will they nest under decking on concrete too? 🤢

It doesn’t make a difference, basically leaves and stuff blows under there and they nest in it, or use it as a hidey hole.

Oh god, thanks for letting me know. I’ll have to keep an eye out

Hated ours. It was here when we moved in. Painting it every year was effort, and it was full of rats. Was glad to see the back of it tbh

We built a summer house with decking (royal we, as in we paid some people to design and build from bits of shed we had and an old summer house).

Anyway, for those saying they have slippery decking, B and Q do a textured paint you can apply which may resolve this. Then rugs on if you have bare feet in summer.

I can't help you with rats though. I could hire out our cat but since she is afraid of ladybirds she might not be useful.

Composite decking. Sheltered and faces south. Laid 4 years ago. Needs cleaning twice a year.

Pros - Still looks great.

Cons - is slippy on frosty mornings.
Think carefully about your colour if you’re going for it - dark colours retain heat on a sunny day.
Never had rats.

Oh also, my decking is on concrete and was carefully boxed in so there's no places a rat can get in.

Dh and my dad built ours, about £700 for all the bits two years ago. We use it constantly in the summer, it's the only extension to the house we could afford.
