Does anyone else wish there was a way of contacting property owners on Rightmove etc to say basically your photos are rubbish , in the wrong order and not clear enough?

I don't need 12 photos of the front parking space, 6 photos of the smallest bedroom, (taken from awkward angles), and only 1 pic of the kitchen and bathroom. Equally don't use arty photos of the fireplace or rose bush.

Also descriptions ... I need facts about room dimensions and facilities. I need accuracy.

I also need a floor plan.

Maybe if you just marketed your property properly you wouldn't have to keep reducing the price.

Oh yes the arty photos are my ‘fave’. Zoomed in on the side of a fireplace or… a random vase?? Sometimes even a door knob 👍🏻

sarahc336 · 16/05/2024 12:18

Or zoomed in on a plaque hanging on the wall saying something like home from home 😂😂

LookAtAllThoseRoses · 16/05/2024 12:22

Honestly, I see this as evidence they aren't that copped on, are trusting a poor-quality estate agent unduly, and just benefit from the price-lowering. The crapper the photos are, the more likely it is that the unimaginative dismiss it, don't view, and leave me in a better position. (Our current house not only had terrible photos and a badly-written, inaccurate listing, but also got a spread in the local paper's property supplement with differently terrible photographs...)

Bearpawk · 16/05/2024 12:24

I'm seeing an increasing amount of "lifestyle" shots included - a close up of a dyptique candle or a cockapoo on a trendy throw- absolutely nothing to do with the house ffs

True enough! There is no excuse for crap photos ...

And the annoying picture snapshot video like it’s supposed to serve any purpose. Dixons and Connells are the worst with this!

Nobody should be listing without a floor plan at the very least especially if you can’t put a proper video. It’s such a waste of everybody’s time

We just get 90000 drone shots. We get it - one of the local estate agents has obviously got a drone for Christmas and wants to play with the toy, but I wanted to see how big the kitchen was.

We have the gem of Jesus Taxidermy Central currently on the local rightmove:

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/142724261#/?channel=RES_BUY

Did the owner seriously not look at the photos and think "might look a bit busy in here - toning down Jesus and the dead animals would be a good idea"

Check out this 4 bedroom semi-detached house for sale on Rightmove

That’s a really great house. I can look past some of their decor choices. Personally, all the tvs is worse than the taxidermy etc. But at the end of the day, it’s just their personal decor choices and who am I to criticise that.

Oh they are absolutely lovely houses (the architecture on that street continues to enthral me and the room sizes are amazing - I live in one) - but you can't see any of it... I love the colour, I love the quirkiness but there's a point where it gets bonkers and I can imagine the taxidermy being somewhat polarising for viewers!

therejustbarely · 17/05/2024 09:33

Some RightMove listings look like an AirBnB listing. It's bizarre.

Caffeineislife · 17/05/2024 09:44

We have a few independent estate agents who has set up in our area.

It appears one's hobby is photography. Every listing she does has at least 25 photos, half arty ones. She has done the pensioners who are downsizing across the road, one of her photos is of their rose bush. Said rose bush was a ruby anniversary present, it's in a pot, it is 100% going with them.

Another has very obviously spent a lot of money on a drone as every listing he does has to have drone photos and footage, even if the neighbours gardens or the garden of the house is is selling is an absolute pig sty.

My personal favourite is the guy whose hobby is eating. Every listing he does includes a video of him in all the eateries in the area. The video always includes him having lunch, coffee, cake, beer, breakfast or dinner at an eatery in town. It's supposedly to help sell the town as a great gastronomical experience. Yes... I'm sure all potential buyers fall in love with a house because of the greasy spoon in the town... They say, well the roof is in need of repair but it's worth £500,000 because you can have afternoon tea in a little cafe in town.

Taxidermy creeps me out and yes I'd be put off even viewing that house.

I reckon anyone who can't see past the current owners personal taste would end up being a nightmare buyer, and the sort to insist on an indemnity policy for non-existent building regs sign-off for a loft conversion that has either always been there or was done 100 years ago!! Those photos do at least clearly show the rooms!

Fair play to the seller...not to my taste at all, but if I wanted that sort of house id be replacing the kitchen and bathrooms anyway, and would fully expect to redecorate. We bought a big old Edwardian house once - been owned by the same couple for 40 odd years. Woodchip, maroon and cream gloss woodwork, hideous old furniture But they liked it...and it didn't take long to sort out

DoNotScrapeMyDataBishes · 17/05/2024 09:58

See wood chip is my absolute non negotiable - I am never ever ever stripping that bastard stuff ever again!

Twiglets1 · 17/05/2024 10:01

It’s a red flag for sure that the sellers are not as focused as they should be on selling their property.

I always proof read the EA blurb and agree the photos (or disagree) before anything about my house gets put on the internet.

"Beautifully presented" 😂🤣😂🤣

viques · 17/05/2024 13:08

Whatever happened to the House Doctor? I used to love that programme, but I suppose these days everyone is their own house doctor, with the possible exception of the owners of the Jesus Taxidermy Central house mentioned up thread.

Oh yes, I remember that American presenter.

The things she used to suggest seemed novel at the time but probably would seem obvious today, like decluttering for example or showing how a room could be used.

See I can totally picture it without all the ‘stuff’ it’s just decor, tbh doesn’t bother me that others can’t though it.

It just means some great houses will get less interest because people can’t see past an owners personal taste so probably easier to negotiate on.

TeaandHobnobs · 17/05/2024 13:44

Why does pretty much every* listing say "ask agent" under Size, yet the sqm/sqft is on the floorplan?
Agent laziness? Not wanting people to be able to search by square footage??

*disclaimer: I haven't looked at every single listing on Rightmove

TallulahBetty · 17/05/2024 13:46

'Buyers should be able to look past the decor' - oh come on, there's using your imagination to envisage your own stuff in a house, and then there is... THAT

Trunkybum · 17/05/2024 13:50

I was looking at a house the other day and so many of the photos were utter shit. It was odd, because the house wasn't too bad so there were plenty of decent shots they could have got, but instead I think there was 1 of a candle, which the entire background - you know, the bit they actually want to sell - purposely out of focus. One of a door handle close up. Just a regular door handle. And two, yes TWO of the street sign outside. Why one is even required is beyond me.

Can't understand why the vendor would agree to those being used.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 17/05/2024 14:00

What irritates me is videos made up of the pictures in the brochure/web listing. That video isn’t telling me anything other than the estate agent was a wannabe art student, ditto pictures of the estate agents feet. Give me a mapperport video anyway.
Also want photos of every room and of landings/hallways especially if they have cupboards.
