Advice on builders - damage to house issue

Gigi00 · 14/05/2024 11:54

To set the scene ... I had my house rendered, the people were polite but unreliable. They completed the work but often would say I'm coming tomorrow and then not come and not let us know or chop and change the time and days often and again not let us know until the following week. No communication to say sorry we cant come today.

Our render got damaged by a skip removal ( damaged by a 3rd party arranged by the renderer) (end of march)

They said they would quickly resolve the damage to our house (needs render repair and new fascia above window) & also we have been waiting for them to repair damage to our roof as part of the works.

I keep getting told they give me a date soon, once they resolve the issue with the skip company. Meanwhile we have spent thousand of pounds to be left with damage

How would you handle this?

Im chasing every week and i feel like a total pest. They are taking almost a week to reply to me, i feel like I'm at end of my tether but i need them to repair the damage.

Any advice would be appreciated

This has been going on since end of march, with me chasing every 1-2 weeks

I'd be taking a claim to the skip company who caused the damage.

Gigi00 · 14/05/2024 20:44

The building company said they'd resolve , as they are the ones who hired the company

Its awful having to feel like your constantly chasing and tbh it doesn't feel like its going to get resolved. I feel like they are just fobbing us off

Can anyone advise on how to handle this?

Give them written notice they have 14 days to totally resolve all issues, and detail them. Then say if this isn’t done you are going to get estimates for the work and will be taking them to the small claims court.

They're not interested now they've done the job, small claims court

Gigi00 · 14/05/2024 21:29

@Houseplantmad @longdistanceclaraclara

So the house was damaged by the skip company - would i need to take them to court separately? Or could i take the render company to court? They managed all 3rd parties involved

Secondly the renderers also damaged my roof - which i could take them to court for

Would a small claims court cost me a lot of money?

Are you in England or Scotland? Not called small claims herein Scotland but cheap and easy to do and imagine merely the threat of it will get them along to sort it. Assuming you already paid them in full?

Houseplantmad · 14/05/2024 22:23

Depends on the size of the claim but it’s low cost and as op has said may jolt them into action.

Gigi00 · 15/05/2024 09:24

@Maryamlouise already paid in full yes
