all that glass how much are the heating bills?

captainmummy · 03/04/2008 18:35

It's hard to tell - it is overlooked? I think it would be a shame to cover up the 'feature' of the wall of glass.

Name made me laugh!

GrapefruitMoon · 03/04/2008 18:35

Would the library/office be big enough to be a second, cosier living room?

I would worry the conservatory would be too hot/cold....

dejags · 03/04/2008 18:41

I really like it. It's different.

We have found that underfloor heating in the winter and airconditioning in the summer (if used sensibly) has not increased our bills too dramatically.

Great name too

hatwoman · 03/04/2008 18:42

the name is awful. my mum thinks they were being ironic, but I;m not sure I credit your average property developer with that level of sophistication...

they claim they've had specialist, erm, stuff, to ensure it's ok in hot and cold. but it's not like you can just pop back to the shop and return it. not that we;re thinking of buying it. we need the office as an office tbh

no because i do not like the look of it.

it looks like a garden centre.

Rosbo · 03/04/2008 18:43

wow, the conservatory is MASSIVE!

We have a large orangery (about 28feet x 18 feet). It is underfloor heated for winter and has an automatic air extraction system in summer so it works well all year round. But it's really expensive to heat as the whole structure is triple glazed glass which is a whole lot of cool surface. And in summer the air extraction system is on often so again not cheap to run. Also how oftene might that structure need painting? It won't be cheap to do that and if it's south facing it will perhaps need doing every 2-3 years. We had ours painted (a lovely Farrow and Ball sludgey green) last year inside and out and it cost over £3,500 - it was a very fiddly and long job as you can imagine.

I have blinds and they are essential if you are south facing. Also prepare for your furniture to fade. I have a lovely pair of Multiyork sofas and they are fading by the day.

Not for that sort of money! Bloody hell.

hatwoman · 03/04/2008 20:56

thanks swedes that's really interesting and useful. edam - were you referring to the sale price? It's ridiculously over priced. we're not remotely interested in buying it but slightly interested in renting it. The problem is the owner wants to keep it on the market - and we want a 2-year let. It's part of a development into which someone has clearly sunk millions - and suddenly he (I'm guessing it's a he) wants to rent them out. dh and I think he's bricking it and needs some money coming in. But he's really not done his sums - the whole development [http://www.castle-hill.co.uk/ here] is hugely over-priced. dh and I reckon they're asking london prices.

Castle Hill

It's nice but not as good as it looks on the web. some of the photos are a bit deceptive - as you'd expect, I guess

i really like it hat.

Tinker · 05/04/2008 18:32

I don't think it looks very nice at all. Agree with expat that it looks like a garden centre or a proper conservatory/greenhouse.

fizzbuzz · 05/04/2008 18:53

I thought the conservatory ws a greenhouse

I love Bakewell, don't live far, but wouldn't live there. Am suprised that small bridge into the town doesn't collapse with the weight of tourists, and the traffic...and crowds

Doesn't it's population triple in the summer or something?

edam · 06/04/2008 11:44

Very true, fizzbuzz. I wouldn't live in Castleton for the same reason.
