North facing garden??

Hello!

We're currently looking at a house, huge advantage being a corner plot with complete privacy from neighbours in the back garden.

However, the garden is north-facing. The line on the image is a slope in the garden which we could build decking to level out the garden. I love the sun, not sure if it would be a wise move to overlook the fact the garden is north facing? No houses etc to cast shadow. Myself and husband are at a disagreement with him saying we'd receive sun into early evening however I'm not sure (our current garden is north facing and dissapears around 6 and swore I'd never go for the same position of garden). Happy to be told I'm wrong!

North facing garden??

Had a north facing garden at our previous house. It was wide but not long. Cold, damp & mossy all year round apart from in one far corner. Fast forward a few years and out new garden is also north facing. We have a single storey extension across the back which means our patio is about a third of the way down the original garden. It's fine. We get plenty of sun on there through the day . Feels completely different to previous garden.
I think the key is to have a decent length garden and to consider shadows cast by the house or other buildings.

In contrast, my parents have a south facing garden. It's scorching. Far too hot to sit out on a sunny summers day. Would rather have my north facing garden.

As a pp l suggested, I'd go and view it around 12pm/early evening on a sunny day.

We are on a corner plot 1/3 of an acre which no building nearby to cast shadows. It faces east and north. It’s a wide but fairly shallow plot. Our large patio in behind our double garage in the north facing part of our house. It’s perfect, because of the single storey garage and the large deep patio the reaches all day and evening. I hope you manage to go and view again today. It seems to me that a NW at back and then SE at the front would be lovely, better in my mind that north and south.

It looks NW facing, same as mine, and I get sun pretty much all day until about 5pm when it goes behind some flats behind us. If they weren't there we'd get it for longer & see the sunset. The only bit that has the least amount is ironically outside our sunroom and a bit outside the kitchen. I love our garden and I think I'd only ever question one that faced east

Another NW garden owner, also sun fiend and debated wisdom of purchase at time. It’s fabulous for sun, at this time of year we have it in different parts of the garden from around 8:30am through to 8pm as we’ve no obstructions to the west. That is your key thing to look at.
