New bath bottom smaller than mine

In the middle of bathroom renovation and the bath is in but not completely fitted. Fitter said we could try it so did last night. I’m small but pear shaped, just about squeezed in the base and was really uncomfortable . I’ve spent ages googling as you do, new baths seem to be ‘eco designed’ to save water. All 4 sides slope inwards on this
one so the base is narrow. Fitter coming back at 8. I’m plucking up courage to tell him to change it. Are there any baths out there that aren’t eco designed? Or am I stuck ( literally might be) with this?

It's the shape of the bath. You can get wider baths.

Good you noticed before it was fully installed!

Nope. I'm a size 20/22 atm and our rolltop bath fits my sizeable hips in it with an inch or so to spare either side.

Unfortunately, you really do need to try to do the 'lie in' test in the showroom.

Change it. I had a tiny one. Never used it ever. So no point in it. Got wider one - hooray baths back on the menu!

We’ve just had this experience - I thought a bath was a bath but the one we took out was definitely wider inside than the one we’ve put in. DH can squeeze in, I never have baths, but poor mil is going to struggle - a bath at ours used to be a real treat for her.

the only thing I’ve noticed is that when I stand in it the base is definitely higher than the old one was.

i thought it was because I bought a cheap bath but the eco thing makes sense.

You get baths in loads of sizes, the cheaper they are, the smaller they are, and it’s dressed up as “eco”. We bought a big one a couple of years ago -but it wasn’t cheap! I only have a bath every couple of weeks or so, but I want to enjoy it when I do!

May I ask the size of your tub, if you know it? I am your same size and am worried about the new tub that's on the way. TIA

I’ve changed it. Chased around and tried a few as I should have done. Chosen by midday and fitter ordered it by 3. Concentrated too much on looks and new separate shower for DH old rugby player with dodgy hips and knees. I’m limited to 1600 length, 700 width and found a Roca ‘The Gap’, much better. Straight sides and tap end. Brochure says it has large water capacity but it’s a treat, it’ll be mostly showers . I can lie out at 5’3, 44’ hips just fit. Haven’t measured my hips for years so a bit of a surprise!
Widemom- the new bath that’s going is a Cleargreen Reuse or Sustain, fitter thinks they’re good quality but a tight fit for me.
Thanks all for the encouragement.

I wish I’d read this before having my bath fitted!

I’m 5’5”, size 16, and I’ve pulled out an old and knackered but perfectly comfortable bath and put in one that I just can’t relax in. I didn’t measure the last one, it was an old steel one.

I’m a little gutted - so much expense on a new bathroom, and I hate the bath! Maybe I’ve just put on too much weight. The slope of it means it doesn’t take much for it to start over-spilling.

This morning I filled it as high as I could without risk of overspill, then measure the water in the bath with a jug. It came to approx 70l, is that standard?

My bath is a Reuse too, I should add.

Surely the water in a bathtub should be able to cover your boobs!
