Housing association new build

Hi

wondering if anyone can advice me on this. 2 months ago I was so lucky and fortunate to win a bid on a lovely new build house for my son and I. the house was meant to be completed end of April however few weeks back I received a call to say the houses are finished but they are having problems with the outdoor power work so it will be delayed until mid May.

2 days ago I received very upsetting news to say the building contractors have gone into administration. they referred me back to housing association as they can no longer offer me the house as they have no idea what’s happening.

housing association have told me I can bid on other properties in the meantime however we’ve sorted everything around this move as we’re relocating about 40 mins away from where I currently live with my parents .

so my sons school we was hoping for him to start in September etc etc.

what is the likely hood do you think of holding out on this house still and it getting completed. The houses are done, they’re ready, it’s just the electrics “ apparently “

its all just one big mess , I can’t believe 2 weeks from completion this has happened

I am really sorry OP. If the builders have gone into administration and they told you they can no longer offer it to you as a HA place then I think you need to assume it won't go ahead :-(

Something similar happened to someone I know, and they just put the moving in date back a couple of months. The Housing Officer/ case worker should be able to advise a bit more.

I just realized that the company did not go into administration though, so not the same situation.

Sorry I don’t think I made myself clear , the company that own the houses have said they are trying everything they can to make sure they get completed, and in the meantime I need to speak to housing association and go back to them.

housing association have said they hope this will be the case and it gets done as it’s practically ready. However there concern is they don’t know how long this will be . Could be 2 weeks, 6 weeks , could be a year. However they have said if they get news of another contractor coming in then the house will still be offered to me, it won’t go back into the bidding system.

it’s just a tough decision what to do, this has really unsettled my boy and he’s just come round to the idea of starting a new school as he’s moving to a middle school system in September in a new area. And now we currently don’t have a clue where he’s going to be.

i just don’t know if it’s best to just sit tight as I don’t know much about houses and building but if it’s just the outdoor electrics, surely this is something they can sort asap

Oh I see so you are wondering what to do and whether to hang on to the school place? And what to tell your son? That sounds really stressful. I would maybe talk to his current school and double check how long you can hang on to the current place and still hold the other one for September?
