How much is my garden renovation?

Zafloraqueen · 03/05/2024 18:16

100ft jungle garden massively overgrown
3 small tree removal
Several stump removal from tress we cut down ourselves
Digger hire, no major slope but incredibly uneven
New gravel boards and 6ft posts on both sides and back
6ft feather fences both sides and back
Top soil and grass seed distribution
Skip hire
3 person job 3 week time frame weather depending.
Local company West Midlands

DH has buyers remorse so doesn't want to spend a penny. I love my renovation house and think it's a fair price!!!

I could be wrong, but I don't think you'd get much change out of ten grand.

HesterRoon · 03/05/2024 18:23

😲10 grand-I’d be thinking about 4!

namechange1986 · 03/05/2024 18:27

12k

BusyMintCrab · 03/05/2024 18:28

I would say about £10k too but depends where you are in the country.

Have you got a quote already or just trying to guesstimate?

LittleRebelGirl · 03/05/2024 18:30

10k, but I'm not 100% sure on 100ft. I work in meters!

GreatGateauxsby · 03/05/2024 18:31

10k at least

the labour alone (45 man days) is going to be 4.5k-6k

Roundandroundthegard3n · 03/05/2024 18:32

15k. 3 people for 3 weeks labour is going to be very expensive.

Shadowboy · 03/05/2024 18:32

Min £450 per day x 3 weeks £6750 in labour alone. But they may charge a higher daily rate.
Hire of digger and skip then fencing -is this all round? Both sides of 100ft garden?

3 people for 3 weeks. £100 x 3 x 15 days = £4,500.

ApolloandDaphne · 03/05/2024 18:37

We have a huge garden and spent 100k on it last year for design, landscaping, and planting. Worth every penny but it's expensive. I think you are going to be paying a lot for what you have detailed but it will be worth it to have your garden locked into shape.

That would be just under minimum wage payment for the staffing cost, no national insurance, pension, sick pay, holiday pay.

BeeCucumber · 03/05/2024 18:42

I would say that it would start at £15k for a basic clear out and then another £25k ish to replant, landscape etc.

Zafloraqueen · 03/05/2024 18:45

7.1k inc Vat!! I knew we were getting a fair price!! Come recommended by my parents, grandparents and a few others in the area. Fencing all around the garden. Current posts are rotton on one side with no fence panels. Other side, 4ft fences so putting fence in front which neighbour is happy about. 2 week job initially but due to the wet weather they have said maybe 3. 2 people every day 3rd person to assist but definitely here for a full week. Quote accepted, deposit given for materials work to start soon!! Thanks all feel better now!! Haha

A lot of people doing that sort of job are self-employed so that won't apply. Anyhow, they'd probably only be doing about 5 hours a day for their £100. A pal of mine is a landscape gardener, it is backbreaking work. Next time I see him I'll ask what his hourly rate is.

Cofaki · 03/05/2024 18:47

I was going to say 10-15k. I'd bite their hand off at 7k!

blacksax · 03/05/2024 18:47

@Zafloraqueen Good price there, you have yourselves a bargain.

No replanting or patio renovation. I did ask about this but that really pushed the price up which shocked me. Going for a blank canvas atm as its currently a large unusable space which is sad for my DC

The point I was making that this is a bare min amount plus associated costs. People who are self employed should be charging more per hour (like your friend) so they can cover these costs when they take time off or in case they’re ill.

socialdilemmawhattodo · 03/05/2024 18:52

That is very cheap. I hope you get the work completed as you want. I am south-east and the work you have indicated would be at least £15k. Which is unaffordable for anyone down here on local wages.

TheFlis · 03/05/2024 18:54

We paid &12k for similar last year (south east).

They have done my parents and grandparents garden so I am confident. Anything would be an improvement to how it is now lol We have cut alot down ourselves but we need the professionals now

We have a small garden but have just paid 8k for paving to side of house, a paved path and step outside garden doors plus 3x3 patio at bottom of garden with path to shed, cobbled edging and new beds and turf. Seems we have a bargain!

I was giving a very rough and basic ballpark guesstimate of just one element of the costings to another pp to show that their figure of £4k for the whole thing was a bit optimistic.

You have no need to explain finance to me, thanks all the same.
