What colour carpet with deep pink walls?

I have a south facing hallway and stairs which I've just painted valspar 'pocketful of posies' (very deep pink) and now I'm pondering what colour of carpet to put down with it. I like gold but not sure if it goes, I like teal or green. Carpet is obviously mega bucks so I don't want to make an expensive mistake which I'll then regret for years to come. I've gone a bit mad with the bold colour because this hallway and stairs are tucked away and lead up to the loft rooms, and I'd like to be bold, but not stupid, with the carpet. Help!

Have you got a picture of the space?

My natural instinct is a straw colour but since you say bold I wonder if a stripe or pattern eg plaid might work.

My first instinct was a subtle champagne colour. However, you said bold, what about black and white herringbone? That would look great imo 😊

I'd go sage green. I like greens with pinks.

Or possibly a blue that is on the purple side, if you wanted something a bit darker.

Sage green

The hall has a small window which has a dark green curtain and there's an old waxed pine chest in there which is staying though I may change the handles. This is not the best pic but it's the only one I have (child asleep in the loft now so can't take any more pics without disturbing them tonight.)

The colour is more pinky than orangey irl

Unless you can afford a new carpet when you repaint, I'd honestly go neutral so that you leave your options more open for wall colours in future.

I def can't change carpet in less than its lifetime but I'd also be happy to paint to go with a bright carpet down the line - if I love the carpet 😃

That is a very deep pink, so possibly not sage green, now I've seen it.
I might go more towards a jade green, or more towards a violet blue, if I wanted a contrast.

But I think RedBulb's suggestion of the black and white would go with that bold colour the best.
Or something like these:

I like the idea of a bright bold blue. I'm a bit scared though. Not sure about pattern because the way the stairs run would make it odd at the turn (just one big square step that is essentially at 90degrees to the stairs and the hallway).

That’s really very bright and I’m sorry the curtain doesn’t work.

personally I’d put a light neutral carpet in, like a pale beige and same for the curtain.

PugInABeret · 03/05/2024 19:39

Yes, I wasn't sure if the curtain was now wrong. Luckily I have another - morris print in straw coloured ground with some pink highlights which I can swap it out for. I'm now leaning towards this 'gold' carpet. The Tapi see it in your room function doesn't recognise the stairs as part of the floor but it shows it well enough.

I think that's almost too yellow and almost a statement colour all of its own. I think a neutral carpet would be better something with warm tones.

I'm going into the store with a paint sample over the weekend so I'll make the final decision based on that. This thread is helpful ☺️
