Curb appeal/ugly house

Would an ugly house from the outside put you off? Think ex council house. Square box with little square box infront. Its really not attractive and not much that can be done to improve outside. But inside is perfect family home. With lots of storage and a large garden. Its probably about £30k less than others in area.. because... well its ugly. Would you?

All the best OP, i like that it has the bin storage, nice to have the shut away. I;d attach planters to the bin storage doors, get some hanging baskets on the house, nice wreath maybe on the door, loads of summer ones available now. Get a mix of flowers under the window, maybe some spring bulbs and some hellebores for winter flowering.

I like it OP. I like boxy square houses.

Aww thank you. Yes some nice flowers will brighten the front up. Fingers crossed it all goes through. Xxx

There are many houses like that near us. The city was a "New Town" back in the 1970s/80s. This 3 bed end of terrace for £185k is typical:

So much room for the money

The Victorian terraces around here all have their tiny front gardens or short paths crammed with ugly wheelie bins so the bin storage really appeals to me!
A good design feature.

I see a tidy house with low maintenance and no expensive legacy issues. Doesn't even need repointing! - bliss.
Enjoy your home op, I imagine you'll be very happy there.

It would depress me, driving home to that every day.

Chuckled to myself reading this. Their are funny people on Mumsnet Grin

I think I can see some bare soil near the front door. A beautiful climbing plant would hugely improve that house. As would a green roof on the flat bit but that might be more tricky

WoodBurningStov · 02/05/2024 08:58

Depends what it's like on the inside. If it's lovely then I'd swallow the 40k saving and buy it. But it will be worth 40k on selling.

I lived in an ugly, 1970s house in a lovely area with great schools for 15 years whilst my sc were young. Best decision.

I've lived in a nice house in a shit area, and an ugly house in a nice area. I'll pick the location over keen appeal any day

Victorian terraces, even the ones with no front garden, can be upgraded to make them more attractive - brickwork, says windows, traditional door.

To be honest, the lack of any greenery is the most off putting things with this house.

Congrats OP - best of luck with it all.

SugarHorse · 02/05/2024 14:54

I really don't think the house is ugly or hideous as others have said, I'd say it was bland rather than ugly. It's not an uncommon style, and I'm sure will sell if priced appropriately.

Thanks so much everyone x
