Moving near to Reading - would love nearby town suggestions

Heya, we are looking to move within an hour radius of Reading, can be a bit over if it matches what we need, for example we are looking at Calne which is 1 hr 15m (Reading is a bit out of our price range)

We would love recommendations of towns and villages etc with good transport links as im learning to drive (husband drives and will be working in Reading.)

Ideally not more than 260k for a 3 bedroom property but we can go higher for the right place 300k would probably be the absolute max.

We have a 2 and 4 year old if that helps with recommendations!

TIA ☺️

If you're looking at Calne, which is ages away from Reading, what about Hungerford or even Swindon Old Town?

Ooh thanks! Will definitely check them out :)!

Or large villages outside of Swindon? Wootton Bassett? You've got the M4 corridor to chose from. Going West from Reading will be much cheaper than towards London.

Make sure you factor in the travelling time as this will change significantly at peak periods.
I used to commute to Reading and a (very) early start was the only way to make it work for me. Being sat at my desk by 7am meant I sailed in (and home again as I left at 3pm) whereas getting there later meant sitting in endless traffic both ways.
Have you checked the Trains as Reading is well served (assuming the trains are running)?

That’s something we are looking into, we are both from the London side of Reading so it’s on our minds for sure.

Didcot you might find something, there's good train links to Reading.

Yately area, Salisbury if you want a cheaper city, Borden, Alton, Kingsclere, Newbury, Hungerford, Devizes, all good areas. I would avoid Swindon though
