Is it possible to sell your house yourself by auction?

DH and I will be selling our house by auction once we move. We'll both be available for viewings and won't want a board outside.
Long story short the street has turned to shit. Only another slum landlord would look at the house. We're moving to a nicer area.
Has anyone done this? Advice greatly appreciated. TIA

I'm sorry to hear you are in this situation. I understand the urge to get away, but I would question whether you are making the decision to go straight to auction based on how you feel living there and wanting to cut ties with the place as quickly as possible, rather than getting the best price, which you may come to regret later. A good Estate Agent will have knowledge of how to price the house to maximise interest (perhaps marketing it to cash buyers only, which would include potential landlords), and you might end up getting more than if you go to auction, where the fees are relatively high, the price markdown probably more significant, and the outcome unpredictable. An agent may also be able to advise on the auction route if it comes to that.

From your post it sounds like you might be in a position to buy or rent before selling, so could you have a conversation with a couple of local agents first, in case they have a more positive view?

NB if you do go to auction, get the auctioneer's advice on an appropriate reserve price.

Thanks. Auction will be best for us. We'll definitely have a reserve. We're cash buying our new home so it's not a big rush to sell. I just wondered if anyone has done this themselves without an EA?
No decent family would choose to live in our street. It'll have to be someone renting through a landlord who don't have much choice. We're the only home owners in our street now afaik?

My sister in law sold via an auction. The market was pretty slow a few years back and the estate agent wasn’t brilliant either. She was living in another country and was fed up, I was checking up on her property. I suggested the auction, it was very straight forward and they did the block viewings of any interested buyers. It sold straight away in the auction and is now a rental property for someone.
