Extractor fan

Hello!

First time poster, long time reader, please be kind.

I want to get an extractor fan put into my bathroom, because after 7 years of keeping the bathroom window open 24/7 I'm fed up of it (and the chill!).

I have no idea how much this might cost, and I've often found that builders/mechanics/trades people either don't take me seriously or give me wild quotes for jobs. (I am a single woman in her 30s for context, but look much younger and constantly get asked for ID or even if my parents are in when I answer the door🙄)

Can anyone advise a ballpark figure for this? Bathroom is first floor and has an outside wall, so I can't see it being a very complicated job. I genuinely have no idea if this is a £300 or £3000 job, and don't want to be scammed on cost.

It's definitely hundreds rather than thousands unless there is something very complex about the job, or you need to remove / reinstate tiling (for example). Checkatrade is quite useful for getting a ballpark figure:

It may vary depending on which part of the country you are in, but it will be close enough. Suggest contacting a couple of electricians for quotes.

I recently paid 200 for fitting in London. I bought the fan which was 90.

I would expect to pay about £300 including fan, or £200 without fan.

Thank you all!

I would get a humidity detection fan , I have a couple in my house.

So its on when you switch the light on and when the air is too moist.

The fan can be anything from 70- 200

And then you'd need an electrician, 150+vat max id say

I could have written this post not too long ago! Had exactly the same issues, and I had two or three people say they’d come out and quote the job (none would give me a quote until they saw it) and none of them ever turned up.
I ended up buying a dehumidifier to see if that did the job instead and it’s working really well so far. It wasn’t so much about the cost of it, I was just finding it so difficult to find someone to do the job!
