If bifold is out… which doors should we have?

Inspired by the thread about what not to have in your home (bifolds)

Which door style do you prefer from the 3 attached images (from Pinterest).

1.Sliding
2.French doors
3.A mix of above

Designing/renovating a ‘traditional’ looking house similar to the images and we are south facing if that makes a difference.

2, 2, TWO!

Assuming your windows match of course.

@OneSecond the wall definitely needs to be thicker but it’s not really noticeable. We added super insulation and acoustic barriers so all our walls are thick anyway.

The 3 sliding panels stack up behind each other for storage in the wall cavity, so you only need a wall space, equivalent to one panel width, on one side.

I love my bifolds and prefer them to all three options.

Just go with what you like!

Sliding or sliding plus French.

I understand the appeal of bifolds, but don't like the reality.

What is the reality?

I have French doors , they fling the full way back and can be hooked to stop them flapping. The opening then is 2m wide.

I must admit I adore them

Loads of light in the house, a sympathetic design and I don't feel exposed.

I like picture number 3- the mix.

We have bifolds and they've been great. When it's cooler we just open the last panel and it works like a regular door. I do think french doors a very pretty.

I have the same type of bi-fold which has a section like a regular door. Absolutely love them. Been in around 6 years and no issues.

I took out bifold doors and installed crittal style doors (Fabco). Very similar to pic. I love it! They came back in vogue with the industrial look, but have been around for almost a century now so I'm thinking they are a classic not just a trend.

French doors should open inwards and be tall and narrow and spaced in pairs, not 4 in a row. What you need for your design space is sliding glass doors.

oldish thread, but came to say, I love bifolds. Posters saying you need the whole thing open did a design mistake - you can buy them so one door opens only. Posters saying they take up space in the garden patio have also made a deign mistake as you can make them open inwards. Sliding doors are a no for me, they used to look cool with 80s architects and now trying to be made popular again cos hey we need to be persuaded to spend out money right. The issue with them for me is you cant open them all up. Bifold you have best of both worlds. Open them all up, or one door. Im sorry but they are a classic and they are here to stay. Sliding, French, and Bifold are all to stay then it is a consumer choice.
