Tiles in the living room

They seem a right inconvenience at times

I do actually agree with you - it was the way you slipped it into the list that made me a little unsure ...

Growlybear83 · 24/04/2024 17:12

Lovely Victorian/Edwardian houses that have had all of their internal walls and features ripped out. If people want to live in an ultra modern house, why not buy a new one rather than ruin a period house?
Open plan living areas
Huge box like extensions with ghastly full width sliding glass doors
Shutters
Cold tiled or wooden floors and no carpets
Enormous wall mounted TVs - why is anything over 32" necessary unless you're visually impaired?
Slogans of any kind, anywhere

user1497787065 · 24/04/2024 17:15

Metro tiles
Black taps
Eyelet curtains

olivebranch31 · 24/04/2024 17:22

Bouclé, pampas, glass banisters, converted garages, black taps, orange wood, monochrome, crittal or bifold doors, slanted cooker hoods

Whatsinthiscrumble · 24/04/2024 17:27

Fake grass - just dreadful
Over-use of grey
All open plan (I need some separate rooms)
En-suites that aren’t fully separated with a closing door - I do not need to hear / see or smell DH pooing

Giggorata · 24/04/2024 17:34

Minimalism and that soulless Travelodge look,

A bath in the bedroom, fitted carpet in the loo and bathroom and not sure about an en-suite. It's all damp related for me.

Bare plywood everywhere, it looks so raw and unfinished.

Grey everywhere, or white everything. So not cosy, it might look all right in the Mediterranean.

And I'm rapidly going off that ubiquitous wood cladding, at least if it isn’t painted. I've seen some that looked as though it had been randomly sprayed with very subtle metallic bits, and it looked incredible.

Hot tubs and whirlpool baths aren’t for me.

Fofftwenty21 · 24/04/2024 17:49

Fake plastic grass
Paving over grass
Gloss kitchen - not sure of its a trend but I don't like it
Houses that all look the same with big open plan space, bifolds door, island etc

krystalweedon · 24/04/2024 17:51

Anything that is fashionable tbh! I avoid slavishly following specific interior trends, they always date. So I just have what makes me happy or is functional or both.

Bovrilla · 24/04/2024 18:01

Fake grass
"Gardens" which have no plants in or are a 70s shrub/rockery leylandii filled nightmare
Dark grey windows with white/grey pebble dash
Grey, I didn't even like it when it was trendy.
Fitted around the bed style fitted wardrobes
"Media walls"

Have a feeling stuck on fake panelling is going to age so fast, and be a nightmare to remove in future too. I don't mind the look, especially in period properties

biscuitnut · 24/04/2024 18:05

Mirrored furniture. Shiny tiles. Glass sinks. Totally unpractical items that need cleaning every 5 mins.

Fizbosshoes · 24/04/2024 18:19

Surely most things become a trend or stay a trend because lots of people want/like them or that's what available in your price bracket

I have metro tiles, they were probably a trend 10 years ago and I liked them so I got them for the bathroom, downstairs toilet, and utility room, at various points in the last decade. They will probably stay for at least another 5 years, because were not planning to redo those rooms any time soon.

Some things I'd say were more of a building style than a trend

cathibiscus · 24/04/2024 18:41

@BoudiccaOfSuburbia um everywhere in continental Europe has bathroom sockets and the voltage is the same? My parents' bathroom in Germany has 4 sockets right by the sink.

Anjo2011 · 24/04/2024 18:48

Media Walls
Panelling. I don’t dislike panelling but it will date so quickly.

FrannieGallops · 24/04/2024 18:49

And the new trend for the bathroom - which was obviously a bedroom at some point - to have the bath by the window. Lovely views while you lie in the bath, and any passing birdwatcher or farmer or walker gets a lovely view of you as you get out of said bath. If you put a blind down or obscuring window film, that takes away the entire point of having the bath by a window, surely!

We have a bath under the window, which I fought hard to get as my husband thought it an odd idea. I love lying in the bath looking out at the garden. Right now it’s especially nice as several of the trees are in blossom.

Unless someone was on a ladder against the house, no-one can see in. I wouldn’t care if they could tbh.

Danielle9891 · 24/04/2024 18:59

Mirrored furniture. It's so tacky.

Baneofmyexistence · 24/04/2024 19:07

I would happily take grey over ceilings and woodwork that are any colour than white. I saw a house for sale with pink doors and skirting the other day and it’s just not for me. Very dark blue paint is also not welcome in my house, feels so oppressive! I’m not really a fan of the grey windows either. They look nice on some houses but lots near us are old, red brick houses and the dark grey frames just don’t go. And lots of indoor plants. A few, fine, but some houses have them everywhere and it’s just way too cluttered for me.

RaraRachael · 24/04/2024 19:14

Built-in wardrobes
Ensuite toilet/shower
Open plan living/dining/kitchen areas

LindorDoubleChoc · 24/04/2024 19:14

Black taps and showers and that in the bathroom.

Leather furniture.

Astro turf.

A paved over front garden to park the car on.

LindorDoubleChoc · 24/04/2024 19:15

TV on the wall.

Itsharoldbishopagain · 24/04/2024 19:22

Panelling! I have been viewing houses and I’ve seen it wonky, peeling off, unfinished and in a kids bedroom! Why would a kid want a panelled bedroom ffs 😂

black taps

grey, green or pink painted sheds, fences and gates which peels off every winter

Digimoor · 24/04/2024 19:46

Appliance garages
Rugs in kitchens

Gettingonmygoat · 24/04/2024 20:49

Open planning anything and open shelves in the kitchen for the crockery, glassware etc.
Lack of carpet, i like my home warm and cosy not cold and stark.
i dislike houses that "echo" and houses with more lights in the ceiling than Heathrow.

@BoudiccaOfSuburbia um everywhere in continental Europe has bathroom sockets and the voltage is the same? My parents' bathroom in Germany has 4 sockets right by the sink.

I cant think of one reason why anyone would want/ need 4 electrical sockets next to a bathroom sink ? One yes. But 4 ? Nope.

fromtheshires · 24/04/2024 21:42

Millions of cushions on the bed and sofas. Where do they go when people need to sleep / sit down?

moonlitmaze · 24/04/2024 21:47

Metro tiles.
Log burner
Kitchen islands
Bi fold doors
