Is getting a cleaner financially irresponsible/lazy?

I struggle to keep my home clean. It’s only a one bed but it’s constantly a mess or dusty. I don’t own, I rent, and am saving for a deposit.

I could afford a cleaner but that’s £60 a week. It’d make a big difference to my quality of life. Has anyone else had a weekly cleaner in this situation?

I don’t know how you’d need more than 2hrs cleaning a week for a one bed. I have a house and 2hrs cleaning a week and they do everything including changing the beds! I do tidy though, I don’t want them to waste time tidying and they wouldn’t know where things go.

If your place is cluttered then you have too much stuff. I suggest you have a clear out first, make sure everything has a place and then get a cleaner.

This is the worst place to ask this question imo OP.

If you can afford someone to help you, get someone in.

Who is going to think you are lazy? And if whoever does, what does it matter anyway.

I do think the price is a bit steep though, but if that is the going rate, then that is what it is.

No, not for a one bedroom I had on my own. For a three/four bed house with two/three bathrooms and kids absolutely.
Perhaps pay for a one off deep clean then try to keep on top of it? My mantra is: Don't put it down, put it away!

It's your choice how to spend your hard earned cash! I don't have a cleaner. I've often considered it but, for me, the dislike of having someone in my house outweighs having to do it myself. I do, however, spend a fair bit on meal delivery services and takeaways because I loathe meal planning and cooking as much as cleaning so I outsource some of that so I can sit on my fat backside more and still have nice food. It would be great if I was happy to cook from scratch every night and save the money but I'm not and never will be so I've made my peace with it!

That seems expensive for a one bed flat. I pay similar for a 4 bed house. If I was saving for a deposit I’d get a one off deep clean to get it to a decent base level then try and keep on top of it myself. Also… declutter.

We pay £17 an hour for our cleaner. Two come and do an hour each so we pay £34. £60 a week for a 1 bed house sounds extortionate. I'd get more quotes.

Absolutely get a cleaner, it’s beneficial to you and your quality of life, but also employs someone, which is all good.

But, £60 a week is high for a 1 bed flat. I pay £35for 2 hours A one bed flat won’t take more than 2 hours to clean.

Agree the costs are too high.

We pay £34 for 2 hours every fortnight -2 bed flat but mostly focussed on kitchen and bathroom.

So cost to me personally £34 a month. Your cost is £240! A lot
