Hi all,

We are planning to move to Sheffield from London and rent a 3 bedroom house. We have 3 children and one will be needing secondary school and the others primary and nursery.

A good school catchment area is what we want.
We work from home so job is not a problem.

which areas would you recommend that are diverse as we have a black heritage.

Please share school names too

Thank you!

Woodseats is lovely, I've lived there all my life. There are several schools with good or outstanding ratings & a choice of secondary schools. There are loads of bars & restaurants, a good shopping centre, two parks within walking distance, good public transport & you can be in the Peak District in 15 minutes. Houses range from terraced houses around £200k to semis around £300k to detached & bungalows at £400-600k.

Primary schools, Woodseats Primary, Abbey Lane, St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic.

Secondary Meadowhead, Mercia, All Saints Catholic is a 15 minute bus ride, Henry Fanshaw at Dronfield.

Dronfield is also lovely but just over the border into NE Derbyshire.

Above is in a very quiet part of Woodseats, a mix of residents from families, professional singles & couples to elderly people, very friendly area, people tend to stay long term, my family have been there over 50 years. Properties get snapped up quickly as the area is so popular.

Woodseats and Dronfield don't have much diversity though at all.
It totally depends on your budget really but I would look at Crookes, Broomhill, Nether Edge, Sharrow and Ecclesall.

What is your budget like?

The nicest areas with the best schools are in the west of the city (ranmoor, fulwood, whirlow, Crosspool) but there is a lack of diversity and its very expensive.

Thanks, I will check the area out!

Would you say it’s diverse for a black heritage family?

Thank you for your recommendation. Our budget is £1000 - £1200
I have seen great reviews about S10 and S11 postcodes. Is the area diverse and does it have nearby primary and secondary schools that are good?

Crookes and broomhill and broomhall are all very diverse. Local primary schools are about 50% non white. Secondaries are similar. There is a good nursery in broomhill called broomhall nursery and the schools are all good too.

Also catchment for Lydgate junior and infant schools which are also very well though of.

The house is slightly above budget but it is advertised as furnished so you could probably negotiate a cheaper rent for unfurnished.
