DIY budget bathroom & kitchen flooring

Has anyone replaced their bathroom and/or kitchen flooring themselves rather than get a tradesperson to do it? Can I ask what type of flooring you used ie vinyl offcuts, tiles etc and how difficult you found it?

I’m worried about fitting properly around the toilet, basin pedestal etc even though there are YouTube videos for this.

I guess my alternative would be to see how much it would be to pay just for fitting if I got an offcut of vinyl etc.

Vinyl is dead easy in a small room. We have a separate toilet and I've done ours a couple of times. The best thing is to make a template before you cut. Just a piece of cardboard works fine. You can unscrew the toilet from the floor and slide the cardboard under it to draw round. You can buy a small tool for corners etc but I've no idea what it's called. I've laid sticky backed vinyl tiles in the bathroom, we laid hardboard first to give a flat surface, that was a bit grim because it needs a million nails. The box of tiles gives instructions but I bet there's a YouTube for it. They've been down for 9 years now and look fine, I fancy a change so might redo next year. The last lot only cost about £50 so not a big deal. I always finish off round appliances with some clear silicone
