How difficult is tiling?

I have a couple of spots in the house where I want tiles put (above sinks) but it's such a small job can't get a tiler to do it! Would it be easy enough to do myself?

Levelling and cutting are your biggest issues. Try you tube tutorial. Anticipate broken tiles

Easy unless you want to do it quickly and well.
How about splashback instead?

For a small job like this look for a handyman who also does tiling rather than someone who only does tiling.

Yes you can do it (especially if there are no tricky corners and things to vit around). Measure really well, use spacers and take your time.

Thanks all! It'd literally be 4 tiles behind a sink, but the tap would be kind of in the way which might be tricky (small sink flush to the wall). But presumably that would also be tricky even for someone professional?

Basic tiling is actually very easy, especially if the walls are already solid and flat. For small jobs like this I would try and plan it so no cuts are needed - once you need to cut things get harder. Think about picking tile sizes where this works best. Definitely use spacers to get the neat finish.

For the tap, I would try and plan so there is a whole tile behind the tap so you don't end up trying to grout a line behind the tap. Grouting is harder than tiling IMO but these kind of small areas are a good place for a bit of practice. As @justasking111 says, YouTube is your friend.

What about the self adhesive ones? Some of them look quite decent, and as it’s only four, it could work.

Mitsky · 15/04/2024 09:27

If it’s just a single surface and no angles I think you’re totally fine. I taught myself how to tile four walls of a fireplace and if I can do it anyone can.

It may be a bit fiddly but it will be fine. Agree with previous poster - try to get a whole tile behind the tap so easier to slide in. If you get adhesive anywhere you don't want it to be wipe it off quickly.
