Toilet under stairs

I was so hoping we could put a toilet under the stairs here.

But after viewing our house purchase again it doesn't seem possible as the boiler and gas is in here, low down.

So move the boiler! It isn’t super easy but it’s very possible?

BG2015 · 13/04/2024 20:38

Really? Wouldn't it be expensive and a load of hassle?

We're downsizing and going from 4 toilets to 1 and we were really hoping to do this.

My question would be -how close is that down stairs 'cupboard' to the kitchen and mains drainage. (It will require some kind of dig out) I am looking to move this year (currently 3 toilets) and would not consider anything unless it has one toilet downstairs and bathroom upstairs.

BG2015 · 13/04/2024 21:10

It's got drains right outside the wall so ideal. Just gutted there is so much in there that may need to potentially be moved.

I've asked a plumber friend his opinion.

Definitely move the boiler. Just see it as part of the costs of getting the toilet installed.

What would worry me more is the gas meter position.

BG2015 · 13/04/2024 21:47

I think that could be boxed in with an access panel

What are the dimensions of this cupboard space? Looks like you might have enough space to box in the boiler and meters on the wall rather than move them.

The gas supply and meter could be relocated to outside. Costs a bit but doable.

BG2015 · 14/04/2024 07:13

Didn't bother taking measurements as when we looked inside we just thought it wasn't possible.

Just an aside... it seems to me meters and controllers are so often installed in the most difficult place to read them, I've come to the conclusion that the some installers are bitter and twisted and do it out of malice. We had a central heating timer high up, inside a cupboard and you had to use steps and a torch when changing the settings.

Anyway I'd have the boiler moved and install a toilet ( but don't go for one of those 'macerator types').

I'm invested now!

You could install a corner vanity adapted to house the gas meter and protect it from water. Like this www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/chatsworth-traditional-grey-corner-vanity-unit.

@AnOldCynic
It didn't link to the product just the website.

Google corner vanity units. A few options came up.

BG2015 · 14/04/2024 12:19

Yes I did, thanks
