Homeowner/DIY/Repairs anxiety

hello!

does anyone else suffer with extreme anxiety relating to their home? i mean in terms of damage to the house, repairs etc.

We had a v old bath which frequently would make a damp patch appear on the kitchen ceiling - we got the bath resealed a few times which didn’t fix the problem (plumbers said the floorboards under bath were probably old due to the age of the bath causing the bath to move away from the wall). This caused me such severe anxiety to the point I was using the camera we bought to keep an eye on our dog while at work to actually monitor the ceiling instead for leaks! We were wanting/planning a new bathroom anyway and had the money to pay so after the last kitchen ceiling damp patch we decided to just go for new bathroom. It’s been finished today and my anxiety is completely through the roof that something will go wrong with it and we’ll have paid money for nothing/have to pay again for fixing.

I do have anxiety about most things in life - and probably some PTSD from childhood/adolescent trauma - but my house is definitely the thing i worry most about. We have good jobs and money to pay for repairs if needed, and of course home insurance for major major major things, but I just can’t shake the horrible sick feeling.

Does anyone have any tips for managing this, or does anyone else even feel like this!

Just take your time on employing trades to do stuff on your home but always remember, in the longer term you are investing in your home.

But i know what you mean, i ve been weighing up the pros and cons of a new roof... for 3 years now, do i patch up or replace? its 100years old with artificial slates and has a few leaks but nothing terrible but its only going to get worse :(

I know the feeling, I blame there are a lot of unreliable tradesman around. Even I paid the money I don't feel I'm left in the hands of professional, I need to do a lot of research and things could still go wrong. But what's need to be fixed needs to be fixed or it could turn into something bigger, try not to catastrophise

Yes I do. Can't relax because of it.
