Pelmet or similar?

We have just had a new kitchen and I am really pleased with it but I dont know what to do with the windows. It looks a bit unfinished with nothing around them and I thought of getting blinds that brought the cabinet, floor and wall covers together, I picked some nice ones from Next with Orla Keily fabric
BUT we will never ever close them, we had blinds there for 20 years previously that were never closed. We arent overlooked and there is no need for privacy there. The old blinds dont go and were just dust traps anyway
I am loathe to pay for meters of fabric that will never be used but the windows do need something - any ideas?
Obviously I could get the blinds and not close them but I was wondering if any MNetters had a better solution
Thank you

Have you got a window sill? I usually fill mine with plants / interesting pottery etc to fill the space and make it feel more homely

You can get a fake Roman blind made, it's a fold of fabric so looks like a blind but one you just can't open.

Agree with plants and things. If you have a deep recess you could get some nice hanging pots too.

We don't have blinds or curtains in our kitchen. The windowsill has an orchid (it was a gift and has flowered for the last 5 years so must like the spot) plus lots of herbs which we use when cooking.

I'd be tempted to put up a slender curtain pole and hand a couple of houseplants from it and put more plants on the windowsill.

I don't have any window furnishings in my kitchen. The smells and grease would accumulate on them.

I have a large picture window festooned with lots of plants.

Thank you everyone.
The windows are quite big and while I have got a couple of plants and a pot of mint on them I dont want a lot of clutter its the tops of the windows that look empty not the sills.
I will look into the fake roman blind thing as I was not aware it was possible
Or I might just live with it for a bit and see if I get used to it a bit more

How about a string of onions across the top of the window? Aesthetic and also functional?

Maybe not. 🤔

I made a sort of fake pelmet thing. Got a strip of pelmet stiffener, stuck fabric to it and stuck it at the top of the kitchen window with velcro strips. It's about 25cm deep, so enough to have presence, but it is totally non-functional.

We have a roller fly screen on our kitchen window ( and all the other windows) , haven’t had a fly indoors for years .

I have a fake Roman blind on a fairly small kitchen window, looks really nice so should work on a larger window, or you could have some sort of Cafe curtain in voile or lightweight fabric.
