Help! 600mm high kitchen cabinets?

We have moved into a house with this 'acceptable in the 80s' kitchen - see pic.

I want to replace the doors with inexpensive matt white slab doors (e.g. these) until we can do a proper revamp.

I thought this would be straightforward, but the wall cabinet doors are 600mm high (by 400/500mm wide), and no-one seems to make 600mm tall doors any more!

What can I do? Could a kitchen fitter cut a taller door to size? Or do I need to carry on living in the 1980s?

Ikea do a 60cm high door.

We inherited similar in our old house. We changed the doors and added plinths/end panels to modernise it. They looked retro but cooler.

Ikea!!!!! How did I miss that?

Thank you!

Ah but sadly Ikea don't do 50cm x 60cm which is what I need.

In case anyone else finds this thread - I think my best option may be custom, they aren't that expensive.

Are the replacement doors taller ?

You could get someone to cut down to size or just put taller doors up

You could put a shelf up at the height of the top of the doors or just leave, no one would know the doors are taller

Have you tried DIY Kitchens?

Fizzadora · 09/04/2024 23:08

Aren't 'drawer front' doors 60 cms?

If you go to your local B&Q they will happily cut any size of wood you want. An option would be to get mdf, have B&Q rip it down to the right size and then paint it or wrap it in whatever you want. It’s what the company you linked to will do but might work out cheaper. Or, if you have the kit easy enough to do yourself. Worth noting you’ll need to cut the recesses for the hinges too.

Thanks all!
Ooh, it looks like DIY kitchens have a 490mm x 597mm matt white slab option which might be close enough - not cheap though.
And @Oldraver good point no-one would know that they were taller 🤣 - hadn't thought of that!

Could also paint the doors with kitchen cupboard paint to buy you some time to escape from the beige temporarily. I feel your pain - we had those (in two slightly different variations of beige) for a good while in our old house.

I used this company: www.ukkitchendoors.com/

they have a drop down of standard sizes, then you can choose to have them cut to a bespoke size free of charge - really pleased, not expensive, had them 2 years. Look great and do the job
