Chorleywood, Croxley, other Met line places

Hi we're looking to move to somewhere along the Metropolitan line
We need to be walking distance to a station, and be within an hour to get into Liverpool Street, and able to commute (by car) to Uxbridge. We currently live near Uxbridge but I feel over the years it's becoming more 'rough'
We have a 1 year old so would like to be close to good nurseries and schools, preferably nice outdoor places to walk or parks
What is Chorleywood like to live in? I have also heard about Croxley, are these good locations for children?
Thanks!

Forgot to add also are there any other locations worth considering?

I used to live round them there parts, but not when I had children, so can't comment on particulars of schools.

All nice places generally speaking and lovely walking, except the 'Watford end' of Croxley can be a bit sketchy (although there are Watford grammars if secondary schools are a concern in the fullness of time).

Also worth looking at Amersham and Rickmansworth. Both pricey, but then so are Croxley and Chorleywood.

Good luck with the hunt.

We are looking to move to Chorleywood with 2 little ones and would really appreciate some input. Our DC are 2 and 3 and we mostly want to move because we want to bring them up in a safe area, with good sense of community and good schools. My worry is that Chorleywood seems to promise a lot, almost too good to be true. Same for SCD school... I've read terrible things about bullying and drug abuse, it makes me shudder. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

@Sereenab I'm close to Chorleywood, don't live there but have friends there ~ I think it lives up to the promises of good community but can be frightfully dull (from what the friends say!) You'll need 2 cars, as it's not well serviced by bus routes etc.

Something to remember is the met line AND chiltern trains can be notoriously unreliable, and is fairly often suspended somewhere along the line. If you're planning to use it regularly for work be prepared for lots of driving to Watford or evening Ubers back.

DS has some friends at SCD and we toured it, seemed to have a good local rep but decided against it as it was a bit far out for us.

I live locally, PM me if you like.

Chorleywood, Ricky and Croxley have slightly different vibes, but all are great places to live. All family friendly, great schools and facilities etc.

Neither of my dcs went to SCD, but their friends did. In my opinion, it can be a bit sink or swim, and the pupils grow up a bit quicker than I would like. But, if you have a confident child, they will do well there.

Alternative would be to move closer to Ricky fir Ricky school.

Happy to answer any specific questions.

In my opinion, Rickmansworth has a better vibe. It has a strong community feel while not being too precious and superior.

Ricky and Croxley have excellent schools. Don't just focus on SCD when your 2 aren't yet in primary!

Chiltern trains are not unreliable!

I grew up there OP, very dull but pretty.

All nice slightly dull areas, close to lovely countryside and mostly good schools. Pricey though, especially Chorleywood and Ricky.

Thank very much to everyone, I appreciate the advice.
