Would you pay upfront for bathroom installation

We are having a new bathroom installed. The bathroom company have discussed the payment options and have said we can either pay the entire cost upfront at the point of ordering, or pay a 10% deposit and pay the balance on completion. Paying the balance on completion would involve credit checks. The cost is around £15k.

We have the funds but I am concerned about paying the cost upfront because what if the company go bust in between ordering and the work commencing, or if there is a problem during the installation. What would you do?

I would pay the deposit and do the credit checks for exactly the reasons you say.

Pay on completion.

In fact I'd be very wary of a company that even suggesting paying it all in advance.

No I would not. Pay the deposit onli. In the unlikely event u are not happy, what incentive do they have to return? Gulp 15k? How would u feel if u had paid this out and was unhappy with the job? Chances are u will be delighted, but best to have something in reserve

You should ( but I’d imagine less than 1% of people do ) ask to see the company’s insurance is current.

Just pay the 10% deposit - on a Credit Card for extra protection

Dear all, thanks for your replies. I think we will pay the 10% deposit and let them carry out the credit checks.

pay on completion! Omg so many horror stories about jobs not being done when paid upfront. Bathrooms only take 2 weeks max so they should have the cash flow to cover that if not run!

Just had mine done, paid a deposit up front to secure the date, he is really booked up so I understand that.

My mum did with her kitchen, and it took MONTHS longer than promised, but she had no way of getting her money back.
