Wood worktop in utility - silly idea?

I am put off wooden worktops because of the work involved in keeping them looking good. Do they really need regular sanding / oiling etc?

In a utility room where the sink doesn't get lot of use would they still need it? I get it in a kitchen where the sink are is constantly wet but I don't thank that will be the case.

Realistically I am not a person who will regularly do this and I'm only thinking wood because we are having a bench and it would be cheaper to just buy more of that than quartz or some such.

Anyone regret wood for this reason?

I had one in my old kitchen and the oiling etc was a pain in the arse- but as you say, a kitchen is used quite differently from a utility. That being said we didn't oil as much as we should have done and it looked fine if you didnt look to closely, so you could probably get away with it.

If you're not prepared to do the maintenance, then I really wouldn't bother.

I have a sink in my utility/laundry room. I do
my handwashing there. Never ever get wood in a working area. Other surfaces are just as good. We have a plumbed in draining board so excess water from handwashing drains away without spilling but wood isn’t a great choice in my view. Put in a decent laminate. There’s a lot of classy ones now. We have granite but obviously that’s costly. No maintenance though!

Thanks all I thought that would be the case. Probably not worth the risk.

We have wood worktop in the utility and we've only had it for about 9 months so far but looks as perfect as the day it was installed. We also use our utility like the butlers kitchen and do all our washing up in there
