Bromsgrove, Worcestershire

Looking to move to Bromsgrove area due to family. Budget of around 500k for a 2/3 bed detached property. Don't need schools but want somewhere that feels safe.

Rightmove is throwing up a multitude of samey looking larger houses on various estates. Ideally would like something with character and some leafiness would be great.

Anyone know this area? Where might suit me? Where should I avoid?

Barnt Green is nearby but I'm not sure that your budget would stretch.
Catshill is a good shout.
Hopeood is gorgeous and Alvechurch is lovely but pricey.
Be aware that the area has middle schools.

Look at Droitwich, much nicer than Bromsgrove. Lots of character property and some pretty villages

Littlefish · 01/04/2024 23:20

Look at Belbroughton, Chaddesley Corbett, Barnt Green, Dodford, Clent and Hagley.

Hanbury and Stoke Prior are both nice areas. If you go a bit further out, Bentley Pauncefoot is gorgeous and has the benefit of a brilliant name

Nicer than Bromsgrove yes but not actually nice! It's very run down in the centre and there's hardly anything going on.

Alvechurch and Blackwell are good options. Within Bromsgrove Aston fields is the best area but it is quite estatey. It's not a bad budget for the area at all

Am making notes of all the comments and suggestions and will investigate.

Notthatcatagain re Droitwich, you said:

What's the issue with Droitwich? I'm older so don't need kiddie activities. Are there no cafes, gyms, green spaces, activities to get involved in?

There's an ugly estate with a poor reputation in the centre of town for sure but I'm thinking that's not the area you would be looking at. Loads of green spaces, the countryside is lovely and you are right next to the Vale of Evesham which is glorious. Theres a big park with a lido, although the lido has been closing down and then reopening for as many years as I can remember Not sure about cafes in the town centre, not been into town lately but several big garden centres and at least one craft centre with cafes and lots of country pubs that offer food

Littlefish · 02/04/2024 16:33

The Lido in Bromsgrove is fabulous, particularly if you can go during the day, in school term time. Lovely cafe there too.

A lot of Bromsgrove is quite up and coming. I mean not in a super progressive way but a catching up way. It's just not posh for Worcestershire and has a couple of not amazing areas but really it's fine to good. I would personally say nicer than droitwich. I've lived tons of places don't know why so many people are negative about it. Depends where your moving from. If you want posh in the area go to barnt green but personally I don't enjoy the character.

Hollyhead · 02/04/2024 21:22

If you’re not tied to schools that actually frees you up quite a lot as there are quite a lot of nice properties/areas but in a catchment for a less desirable school - north Bromsgrove, the west side of Redditch might suit you too. All the villages around the there are nice but £££ and also prone to some snootery in my experience.

Todlingup · 03/04/2024 08:05

Thanks for the further information about Droitwich Notthatcatagain Sounds mostly positive but you mention an ugly estate in the centre with a poor reputation. Would you be able to tell me what that's called or the roads, please?

Hollyhead Good point about the school catchment areas not being an issue for me. I'm aware of South Bromsgrove School being held in much higher esteem than North Bromsgrove. Both schools seem to be located in fairly close proximity. Do you hapoen to know which areas are not in the South Bromsgrove School catchment area?
