There’s something about this house?

Something seems familiar…but not. It’s in one of the most desired areas of N London and it looks like a student house. The virtual tour is spectacular if only for the guitar collection and the handrail from The Barbican Centre.

Is it because it reminds you of certain eras? There are bits that reminded me of the mismatched furniture of cheap houseshares in the mid 2000s. Then other bits that remind me of our neighbours house in Wimbledon when I was a kid in the 80s. They were artists. Then some of the furniture is quite 90s. It's almost like the different rooms take you on a trip through time. All very odd. Thinking about it further some if it even reminds me of old album pictures

Edited

Yes perhaps it’s been photographed for something like that? It would also make a good Through The Keyhole 🤣

There are too many smaller rooms downstairs without a specific purpose apart from storing junk. A proper corridor/hallway needs to be added to connect the rooms & get rid of the smaller & useless ones.

The downstairs cloakroom has a glass door so I don't think anybody would use the toilet. One of the downstairs bedrooms doesn't have a window so no natural light. The whole downstairs space needs to be reconfigured & decluttered.

Whoever did the photos and virtual tour wanted to get out of there sharpish. I think pp has mentioned that maybe the residents don’t want to sell. It hasn’t been home staged has it?

There are also a lot of personal items in clear view 👀

Where? Where?

Where? Where?

In the bedrooms there are photos, medications, underwear, scan pictures & paperwork. All just…out?

it's a really odd mix. Usually you can get a feel for who lives in a house. Why is there a giant meat slicer in the kitchen? That doesn't fit with any of the other stuff.

letitlego · 01/04/2024 10:36

I don't think a woman lives there. Just a hunch

letitlego · 01/04/2024 10:37

Would would the photographer move somebody's take away clutter? That's not their job

Gingernaut · 01/04/2024 10:40

Never mind the guitars, what's with all the gutted Dysons in the utility room?

johnworf · 01/04/2024 10:43

Gosh. What a tip. The takeaway boxes on the table. If you could see beyond all the grimness then it could be a lovely house.

Riverlee · 01/04/2024 10:44

I think the seller needs to go on mn with a ‘how do I sell my house’ p I st. There are so mn any house selling red flags - clutter, clothes washing hanging up, poor photis that don’t really give you a sense of the place - layout, rooms. Lots of similar photographs. I don’t mind seeing a house that reflects the owners personality, but these photos are a bit random. Love the sofa though.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 01/04/2024 10:45

My ex lived near Ally Pally in Crouch End. I think I’ve seen this house. It is very hilly there and apart from one train station I recall thinking that there wasn’t much there (in terms of shops) but you can walk or drive to Wood Green.

Some parts of Ally Pally felt off to me too.

As pp have said why on earth have photos of clutter!

They're not keen gardeners, are they?!

Well it's certainly a bit of a mess but the fruit trees have all been expertly pruned and there's probably at least a couple of grands worth of plants in pots. Although they don't look very cared for. Once it's emptied it will just be a fairly ordinary house though, no attractive features of any sort. It will need a good clean and a coat of paint but I've never moved in anywhere that didn't

MidnightPatrol · 01/04/2024 12:32

I have been living in London for too long, as this seems quite spacious for £1.7m

Probably a rental ie no incentive for the tenants to fix

The tenants probably didn't know the landlord was coming in with an estate agent.

Guess they do now.

IncompleteSenten · 01/04/2024 12:44

It does need some work if it's going to be turned back into a single family home. The walls that have been put up to split large room into bedrooms need to go and that will make it really lovely.

I actually like the garden, and it's the sort of project I'd enjoy. I'm not bothered about houses, it's gardens I like doing, and that one needs some help, doesn't it? I can imagine what could happen to it though, and that would be a shame.

Yamadori · 01/04/2024 13:10

Not from where I'm standing. Apart from the sickly palm thing, they are mostly ex-Christmas trees and worth very little. I'm intrigued about what's growing inside the greenhouse though, it could be a marvellous old grapevine or a kiwi fruit.

Yes, I've never actually bought a house, I always buy the garden and hope that the house will work. I'd love that garden, it's got good bones, just wants some love

DeedlessIndeed · 01/04/2024 15:00

It's cold, tired and unloved. Not my cup of tea personally, but if you had money to throw at it you could turn it into a practical family home.

However, I don't get good vibes from it - it makes me feel a bit uneasy so I wouldn't view it (even if I had £1.7M for a do-er upper!)

PorkChopJohnson · 01/04/2024 15:07

At least you could live in the grand shed while you were doing the house up.

lljkk · 01/04/2024 15:16

That house is amazing! So much potential. I can't comment on price, it's London, but what a big garden for near central London. Nothing about it puts me off.

yes it looks so…off? Kind of sinister. It’s not really a student-y area.
I think that’s why I started this thread. It should be a really sought after property. I cannot see anyone buying it as a family home. It will be either a rebuild or converted into flats. Not many detached houses come up for sale in this road and would usually get sold before marketing.

TitsInAbsentia · 01/04/2024 17:55

Doesn't make me uneasy as such, apart from the mess....oh the mess! Although look how neat those sheets are in the hallway shelf unit! Just looks like a shared student house to me. The neglected guitar collection makes me sad. Otherwise it's a bit too close to Wood Green but not the worst place in the world.
