House move delayed- how to speed things up?

I was supposed to move house by the end of March as my rental tenancy is up on the 31st, everything is going well with my part of the house sale but the seller ‘s ongoing purchase is delayed to a boundary agreement not being signed. This is very frustrating as the sellers offered to move out and move with family to not hold us back but they have since retracted that due to financial reasons. This had however had financial implications for us as we have had to put all our things into storage and move in with family as we have nowhere else to go… is there any ideas how to speed things up as it is going on 4 months since we sale agreed.

Not much you can do besides wait or pull out, the latter will obviously take you even longer. It's frustrating but thats the process of buying/selling in this country, you have to wait until everyone is ready!

Why do you need to move out of your rental? Have you been served a section 21? You could stay in the property after this expires and the landlord would have to take you through the courts to evict you, which would buy you more time.

4 months since sale agreed, in a chain, isn't a long time. Not that that helps right now.
Boundary disputes could take a while to resolve. I'd be asking for estimated time scales, and if the answer is open ended, you have some decisions about another rental, buying a different house, or just waiting things out.
House buying is one of the most stressful things - up there with divorce and bereavement. I hope you get a solution soon.

We have already moved as my landlord is selling the house. All I have been doing is emailing the estate agent and the solicitor every few days but do you think we should just wait until they email us?

It’s just taken me 6 months to get to exchange on selling. You have to pester everyone continuously and be a pain in the backside. Conveyancing lawyers have high workloads (usually it’s a legal executive) and so you have to make your case a priority. Can you ask the vendors to contribute to the storage? They might say no but it might focus their attention on getting it done.

Nasty of the sellers to say they would move out but then refuse to. Had you already exchanged by then? I wouldn't have let them off the hook easily with that. It would have focused their minds on getting the boundary peperwork pushed along if they were camping out with relatives.

If you haven't exchanged yet, you could make noises to the EA about pulling out as there seems to be no end in sight.

I would want to understand the exact nature of the issue. If there is an agreement in place that just requires a signature, I don't see why that would take too long. But if it isn't signed because there is a dispute, that may be different. AFAIK it doesn't prevent your seller's purchase from going ahead either way, it's just a risk for them if it isn't signed and they end up in a dispute later on. If they think you may pull out, they may be more motivated to get things moving.

Well I have just received another update from my solicitor saying that the boundary agreement has been approved and just needs signed, once this is done they will be able to move matters forward. We did say that we may pull out so I wonder if it’s prompted things to move quicker! fingers crossed i will complete in a few weeks

Hang in there and keep messaging the solicitor & EA every few days to make sure everyone keeps focussed on this move. I know it feels like you’re being a bit of a nuisance but it’s important to keep pushing.
