Conservation area fence

We are looking to buy a property in a conservation area. The property has an amazing view, however we have been informed that the neighbours to be- want to install a 6 foot fence for privacy - this will block the view from the property we are hoping to purchase.
Does anyone know if the neighbours will be able to get planning permission to do this?

It depends on the conservation area + planning rules, normally a 6ft fence doesn't need planning - what sort of conservation area is it in?

Honestly I'd never buy a property for views you don't own or have totally unrestricted access to based on natural factors.

Is the fence in their front or rear garden? Does it run adjacent to a footpath?

General rules are 1m high at the front, 2m at the back.

Thankyou for your replies. It's in a national park. I've just found some information and it doesn't look like a view is taken into consideration with the planning department. It's more 'material alterations'. It looks like the application is considered on a case by case basis so time will tell. Definitely having a think before signing.

Possibly 'Article 4 Direction' but I'm not certain

You should be able to look and see if there is an article 4 in your area. Your view isn't taking into consideration, but the character and appearance of the area will be in a conservation area.

It's highly unlikely that PP would be required unless the fence is next to a road used by vehicles, or there is an Article 4 Direction relating to fences/walls.
Even if it does require PP, the view from your property as such is not a planning consideration. Even if PP were to be refused, they could plant a hedge to serve the same purpose. As long as it is not evergreen, there are no restrictions on height.
If a fence is likely to remove your view, I can only assume you are gaining that view by looking directly through/across someone else's land - I can see why they might want some privacy.

Yes exactly my thoughts and I'm sure a hedge / trees would appear if the fence was not allowed

Thanks for your replies. All food for thought.
