Replacing a dimmer switch

I’ve had a few quotes and they seem crazy. £150 quid for one? Has anyone else had to replace them? I’m just getting quotes for white plastic ones.

A basic dimmer switch from Screwfix is around £6 and one suitable for LED lighting about £11. Isolate the lighting circuit and ten minutes with a suitable screwdriver to fit it. Any decent handy man could do it, you don't need someone with a qualification. I'm guessing that quote includes their basic callout charge, which can run to £100 just to come to the doorstep.

Yep its very easy. If its a single dimmer switch there should be 2 or three wires in the socket. I always take a quite pic of where the wires go, as I am very forgetful but its a very simple DIY job, or cheap for a handyman. You dont need an electrician.

You don't even really need a handyman. Switch off electrics, unscrew current one, look how it's wired up. Photograph it. Buy new one. Repeat wiring. Done.

Thanks very much all.

It’s a silly little job that doesn’t pay even half a days wage that is going to have to be done on the way back from proper work so I’m surprised it’s that cheap.

easy to do yourself, you can probably find a YouTube video showing you how.
