Kitchen / utility design contrast

Inherited a cream gloss kitchen with black laminate worktops and black floor tiles.

Not my style but it's still in god condition and can't afford to change it right now.

The utility room is the original one from the 80's and is literally falling apart. I can afford to redo the utility alone but don't really want to do cream gloss and black to match the kitchen as I don't really like that!!!

Do you have any ideal on what style / colours I could do the utility in that won't be completely jarring against the kitchen style?

If I could choose anything regardless of it matching it would be a light white washed oak shaker with white quartz worktops. Or a very light green (not bright sage) with white quartz.

You can't actually see the utility from the kitchen and it's round a corner.

Any advice welcome!

@bluesclues91 I like white for unity rooms - a blank canvas. It’s just a clean looking work area. My laundry loom is a warm beige and not near my kitchen which is shaker style white and grey. I quite like the differences but if it’s much closer to the kitchen, I would keep it very plain and neutral. Not wood. More important is how you kit it out.

Given you can’t see the utility from the kitchen, I would just choose what you really want!

They're separate enough that matching doesn't matter. Since you don't really like the kitchen you might as well chose a utility that you like

Thank you!
