Don’t pay it off - interest only

First time I was 31, OH 37 and son was 3. House was worth £270k, but we then moved and took out a smaller mortgage which we paid off on October and I'm 39 now. House is worth circa £500k

55, it’s worth about £500,000 now.

Me 35 DH 41. Main House worth 500k just finished last month. Now we are paying for our second property.

Paid off last year, I am 49, DH 51, 3 children, no inheritance, no benefits, average jobs, neighbours houses sold for 400k-600k last couple of years, we bought it for £250k in 2006.

I have idea how my kids going to able buy anything to be honest.

Next month my mortgage will be paid off.

Literally just paid it off. Final payment was December. I'm 58 and DH is 56.

We had DC relatively late so still have DC at University. When DD graduates and gets a job we will have to stuff our pensions.

Not sure what it is worth now, houses in our street have recently sold for £840k just before the end of stamp duty holiday and £750k more recently. All just semis.

We bought the house in 2000 and it was 3x our joint salary so affordable at a stretch. Now prices have shot up we wonder how on earth ordinary people could afford to buy here. We certainly couldn't afford our house now.

Your reading comprehension isn't great is it. These threads are always dominated by people who are pay off their mortgage earlier than average. It is not representative. If a third of the respondents were saying 65 or above and the majority saying 55 and above that would be a more realistic representation of what most people do. Also worth pointing out that the average house price quoted here is well above average (currently ~£282K). And that prioritising overpaying your mortgage when interest rates are low at the expense of pensions or other savings is really not sensible.

53 but didn't get on the ladder till I was 42.
We overpaid like buggery on quite a big mortgage and have just sold our house and bought another leaving us mortgage free.

House sold for £550K

I was about 50 but only managed to pay off the rest due to dh receiving inheritance.

I was 34. Saved like mad for 10 years then bought for £130k in 1998. So I’ve never actually had a mortgage.

1st mortgage I was 22, DH was 28. It was only a small mortgage of £28k. Second mortgage not paid off before we moved from that house. Final mortgage on the house we’re in now was £70k and was paid off when I was 29. House is worth £400k.

32. House worth 280k-ish

Plan on upsizing in a few years though🤞

I was 38, house was worth about £300k.
Then we moved house and took on another mortgage which won't be paid until we are 60, or until we downsize (more likely).

We bought our house for £95k, paid it off age 37 and valued now at about £220k. We have one income, three kids.
