We have wooden ones like these. In fact we have them in every room/bedroom, apart from the bathroom.

dh wants Venetian blinds
are they easy to clean?

Not really, im afraid.
They get covered in dust, but I think this is mainly due to us not having any carpets, we just have floorboards/laminate. I have wiped them over with a damp cloth a few times, but you can only really clean the strips of wood that arnt overlapped, iykwim.
I also use one of those feather dusters on them, but it doesnt take any dust off.
However, despite all that ( ) we wouldnt have anything else as they look really good.

We have a wooden roman blind from John Lewis.

Tigerschick · 27/03/2008 17:11

We have very sinple dark green roller blinds.
One of them has been lowered about 3 times in the last 3 years!

Fimbo · 27/03/2008 17:19

This is similar to mine, but mine is much wider.

perpetualworrier · 27/03/2008 17:29

When we moved in here, there were plain green roller blinds, that were absolutely caked in grease, so we took them down.Didn't replace them, as we were going to get the kitchen done, but in the end that took about a year. As we'd lived without them for a year and hadn't felt the need for them, didn't get any for the new kitchen. Just seemed like one more thing to clean and that's never a good thing IMO.

Fizzylemonade · 27/03/2008 17:40

Never horizontal venetian as they just get greasy and dusty.

Next time I want roller blinds as they are so cheap it means that if I can't wipe it down anymore then I would just replace it.

I think the "no blind" or window dressing option is fine if you are not overlooked.

posieflump · 27/03/2008 18:42

I'm not really bothered about having any but dh says in the summer the kicthen will get really hot and sunshiney in the mornings

Wooden slatted ones. horizontal slats. can't think od name.

princessmel · 27/03/2008 18:44

same as flubdub

perpetualworrier · 27/03/2008 19:13

posie, we have what I think they call a dutch blind, a sort of canopy thing, on the outside to deal with that. It came with the house and doesn't look great, but it does better job than internal blinds would IME and it doesn't get greasy and you can still see out of the window/get light in!

Flubdub · 27/03/2008 21:08

What about a voile?

ScienceTeacher · 28/03/2008 16:11

We have bare windows. Can't stand the thought of blinds getting greasy (not that I am a particularly greasy cook, but it does mount up).
