Ideally, we'd like to be near Cheltenham (in a village), but it's just so expensive! Trying to widen the search, but we don't live in the area yet, so it's difficult to get a good feel for it on short visits. We'd like to try and keep the budget to about £750k for a detached with decent garden and off-road parking.

I have just seen this thread.

We live in Witcombe and love it.

A Gloucester post code will get you more house for your money.

This one seems special. I would do a search 3 miles from Witcombe and see what you can find.

We've both really fallen in love with Witcombe and Birdlip side. Sadly, the cottage is now under offer - we were waiting to get our completion date to go in with a firm offer in writing, but we're too late.

How about somewhere like Nailsworth / Stroud area? Not far from the M5 and I’d have thought safely in sensible donut commuting time.

Try Chalford, it’s 4 miles or so from Stroud in Cirencester direction. It’s stunning! An old large family friendly village which starts at the bottom of the hill and winds upwards surrounded by beautiful greenery and hidden facilities. Cafes, a great secondary school, a couple of kids play areas, a youth hub, good bus links to Stroud/Cirencester, walkable canal route to Stroud, Stroud Brewery accessible.

Watch that your commute doesn't include the Air Balloon roundabout at Birdlip, absolutely awful traffic congestion. It can often be horrendous from all approaches.

Hi. Did you move? We’re hoping to move to Malvern but aren’t sure which area. We’re 60, without young children

Try doing an 'advanced search' on Malvern. It comes up regularly as a query so there are lots of posts.

Curious to know where OP moved. I know the area well and thinking about moving back there. Anyone got any great houses they can link to, please do! Budget up to 800,000 for a three bed with garden . Looking for semi rural with good transport links and community.

@Prophetorwell Did you manage to move?

Prophetorwell · 24/03/2025 10:58

We actually ended up in the North Wilts Cotswolds near Glocs border and very happy with the choice 😊

Lovely, whereabouts? Are you in a village and does it have many facilities?

Prophetorwell · 24/03/2025 13:57

In a hamlet near a village often called the prettiest in England. We have an amazing pub with tons of regulars and everyone talks to everyone- we love it!! Also have some farms shops, but we’re 20-25 mins from Bath, Cirencester, Chippenham, Bristol and Tetbury, so plenty around within easy access.
