Vibrant green kitchen cabinets (not bespoke)

Hoping for some help as my googling hasn’t been successful.

i am in love with bright green kitchens and we’re looking to replace ours. However, we definitely don’t have the budget for a bespoke kitchen so does anyone know where you can get bright green kitchen cabinets (preferably shaker style or something similar).

I’ve attached some pictures to show the kind of thing I mean. The third one is probably the darkest I could go but I would much prefer the two brighter options.

TIA for any pointers.

Is your current kitchen still in good condition & find a kitchen sprayer.

A friend did this, not bright green, but the transformation was amazing. It really looked like a brand new kitchen. She changed the handles too. Cost a fraction of a new kitchen!

TheOneWithUnagi · 18/03/2024 09:39

DIY kitchens do a bespoke painted option, they will colour match I believe. My PIL used them for their (non painted) kitchen and were very impressed and they were reasonably priced.

LightSwerve · 18/03/2024 09:45

Following with interest! Your suggested colour looks great.

Why oh why are kitchen shops so boring Sad

CormorantStrikesBack · 18/03/2024 09:48

I have a similar colour green kitchen.

I got the carcasses from b&q and the doors and trims and kick panels from a company which just did kitchen doors, etc. 23 years ago and still going strong. They used to advertise in the back of my local paper (but were national), I imagine there's online companies still doing this service.

wineymummy · 18/03/2024 10:18

We bought IKEA carcasses and got the local builders merchant to cut the cupboard doors for us to the right size. Bought a jig to rebate the holes for the IKEA hinges to clip into, painted them green, bought handles from ebay. But we are both handy, and had big aspirations and a small budget. As the PP said, you can probably find an online company to make the doors up for you, and use cheap carcasses behind them.

Another vote for DIY kitchens, we had a new kitchen installed before Christmas in Little Greene Olive painted shaker. Really happy with it, just search their painted range.

LoveAutumnColours · 18/03/2024 12:33

Hand made kitchens of christchurch are pretty much bespoke as they’re very customisable within certain parameters. They come unpainted and are a breeze to paint. You can do this yourself either using a foam roller or buying a sprayer from screwfix for under £100. Plethora of paints out there you can use that have bright green

wicks do a primed range that you can paint yourself. Same painting process applied. Very easy to do

puffylovett1 · 18/03/2024 12:56

Howdens do a moulded shaker door in a primed finish for self painting.

I got my last kitchen here, prices were very low ten years ago, don't know what they're like now. I lived hundreds of miles away so got a friend to check the quality.

I'm looking to do our kitchen in the darker green you've posted. We're planning on buying a 2nd hand kitchen on market place and either getting it wrapped or sprayed.

Dreambow · 18/03/2024 15:08

@LoveAutumnColours we are getting a handmade kitchen of Christchurch. Do you have any tips on painting/ priming and if it needs oil? We are going to do it ourselves!
Thank you

averythinline · 18/03/2024 16:02

I have painted diy kitchen and very impressed its 6yrs old not a chip or mark .. fab would def recommend..
A friend has a lovely green German kitchen equally lovely but possibly twice the price although at the time diy didn't do the style she wanted.
If you just want to do the color there is a base primer you can put on which enable you to paint any colour you like.... .. if you have the space to let them dry properly...

Geneticsbunny · 18/03/2024 18:40

As others have said, diy kitchens will do any custom colour you like. We got them to match ours to Dulux emerald green and I love it.

Thank you everyone. DIY kitchens look great but I did struggle with the online design tool, do you think it’s worth going elsewhere to get design ideas drawn up then using DIY kitchens to order from?

You can get custom doors for IKEA and Howdens kitchens. Look at places like Naked Doors, Plykea, Custom Fronts, etc. For a specific bright green you’ll probably need to go with a painted option like Naked Doors. I priced it up for a utility room and it was a comparable price (with IKEA units) as DIY Kitchens with custom paint

Geneticsbunny · 19/03/2024 08:38

I think I roughed out a kitchen design for DIY kitchens on a peice of paper and then asked them to help check the order against my picture.

Geneticsbunny · 19/03/2024 08:39

There is also at least one independent kitchen designer hanging around on here so you could pay someone to help?

we bought from them last year - kitchen / home office space / pantry / utility - superb. We also had it painted in a bespoke colour.

If you have facebook there is a superb DIY-Kitchens group on there for customers / those thinking about using them and there are a number of very good kitchen designers on that group who will design it for you in their tool...

we did it ourselves (I am in IT anyway) and the DIY-Kitchen staff are superb at checking it and helping you get it right once you are ready to order...

biggest challenge - accurate measuring of the space!

TerrifiedOfNoise · 19/03/2024 10:56

@akkakk thank you that’s all really helpful.

If you are thinking of selling your house at all in the future I would steer away from this. Kitchens carry huge weight when it comes to the value of a house and a kitchen like this will not be to everyone's taste.

I did that about 17 years ago, used another company for free designing service and used that design to order from DIY kitchens.

I didn't set out to do it that way, the local company were recommended by a neighbour and came to do the design but once they costed it, it was way above our budget. We found the same units at diy kitchens for less than a third of the cost (the website was much more basic in the olden days!) and ordered from there and painted ourselves. Kitchen still in reasonable condition

You can always paint the cabinets if it impacts the house sale. Live for the moment I say.

Don’t worry, this is our forever home so I’m definitely not bothered about resale only about loving my own home.

These are all in Farrow and Ball Emerald Green (I’ve extensively researched it!) so you could ask DIYK to do them in a bespoke colour or use Handmade Kitchens of Christchurch and have them painted. Plum Living do doors for IKEA and have a vibrant green called Leaf which looks good too.

SpidersAreShitheads · 21/03/2024 02:24

I would definitely say DIY Kitchens - really low prices, excellent quality, and you can take your pick of the colours with a bespoke option.

The planner on DIY Kitchens isn't as bad as it seems. I was totally overwhelmed by it and procrastinated for ages. I was so daunted by the prospect of fucking things up.

But I knew I wanted to buy from there so I just gritted my teeth and had a proper stab at it one day. And actually, once you've input your room dimensions and saved it as a template, it's not that difficult at all.

Don't worry about fillers and panels, the planner will make suggestions automatically. When you send your plan to be checked, the lovely people at DIYK will tweak the panels, fillers etc and check there are no obvious problems. You really and truly don't need any expert knowledge at all.

The customer service is excellent - it has to be because of their business model. They know some people find it a bit overwhelming so they'll bend over backwards to help you put the plan together.

Also, another vote for the FB group - it's got DIYK staff in it as well as loads of really knowledgeable customers. The group also has several designers who, for a relatively modest fee, will design, plan, and check your kitchen for you.

We bought two kitchens from them at the start of the year - us and DM. Two totally different kitchens, absolutely lovely. Builders commented on the high quality, which was nice to hear.
