Hi there,
I am in middle of refurbishment of rental flat ( trying to do to a good standard).

  • Kitchen tiles behind hod : Which tile should I go for ?? our of these three or shall I go for big tile 80x120 cm so that less grout lines? (We are not planning to chane the kitchen but removing the old tiles. ).
  • Which grout colour for these tiles so that its easy to maintain? Mapie Light grey?

Bathroom :

  • Which grout should I go for?? we have installed same tiles on wall & floor . Kitchen floor will also have same tiles. I am trying to achieve a seamless look so trying to get match colour of tiles....
  • 1 option : Light grey grout on wall and bit darker on floor. same darker grout will be in kitchen also.
  • 2 option : bit darker everyone but worried that darker grout on bathroom wall will show limescale marks.
  • Any mapie grey colour code recommendation

Any thoughts, feedback will be really helpful! I need to decide everything today!

Many thanks in advance !!

Yes, I am thinking to go for bigger tiles rather than metro tiles!

Wondering would 30x60 cm tile look odd in kitchen wall?

We've just finished renovating, so spent months working out tiles/grout/colours etc!
-Do you need tiles in the kitchen? In particular, right behind the cooker? Could you get a splash back instead- then NO grout to clean at all! Or, you tile it, but cover with a clear splashback which is easy to wipe down.
-I would get larger tiles where possible. Personally, I felt metro tiles will date quicker that other styles and have already had their day. Plus- more grout to clean!
-Its hard to tell the difference in tile colour vs grout from your labelled pics. Pic 3 looks like the grout matches the tile better than the darker ones though.

Yes, tending towards bigger tiles for kitchen wall.. Yes I am worried about cleaning grout behind the hob. It seems to get oily!

My dilemma is how big should I go - 30x60 cm or 20x50 or 15x40 cm

What type of splash back above tiles? stainless steel? Wondering it show stains?

What did you choose kitchen and bathroom floor grout? chosen tiles are light grey. should I go for little darker grey or try to match it with wall grout ( its going to be Mapie silver grey)

You could either have a splashback behind the cooker, and then tiles everywhere else. OR, you tile everywhere, including behind the cooker, then add onto the tiles a thin, clear, plastic splashback. More like a stick on piece of perspex type plastic. I would never get a stainless steel splashback! It would show every mark.
We didn't tile the kitchen at all, and instead had the same material as the work tops making an upstand and splashback behind the cooker. If its to be rented out though, this wouldn't be the cheapest option.

Fortunately, we had a fantastic tiler who recommended a resin grout which was from Italy. It was more expensive than regular grout, but apparently doesn't get mouldy, less likely to crack and lasts much longer. Its only be in 12mths, and all go so far. No mould or cracks at all! What is Magpie silver grey? Regular grout or a specific type?

We chose grout as close to the tile colour as possible. In 1 bathroom, the floor tiles were a different colour to the walls, so chose grout that matched the floor tiles and different for the wall grout- not trying to match the grout overall.

I'm far from an expert, but happy to answer any other questions you have. 😊

Just wondering do you remember the brand name of grout? was it kerakoll? https://products.kerakoll.com/yep-repository/kerakoll/media/Fugabella_Color_50_colours_panel.pdf?

Mapie is brand of grout. and sliver grey is the the shade. I might be going for 110 ( Manhattan) or 111 ( sliver grey) shades. Has anyone used these? Are they ok for floor? Or should I go dark colour? (112 medium grey)?

Our grout brand is Benfer from Italy. I think it was Benfler Flex specifically. DH informs me it was 3x the price of regular grout 😬
