Having a bit of a trawl and I realised their search function is quite outdated. I'd love to see the ability to filter by more than just location - so you could search for Georgian houses anywhere in uk, or filter by acreage, or renovation-ready, or new-build, or with pool, or whatever you want to buy nosey at 🤫

Anyone else with me and if so - how do we get the message to the gurus at Rightmove? 😁

If you type ‘period’ into the filter search you can see the older properties. Also works with pools! Sqm would be really useful though.

You arebusing the wrong search engine. Forget houses to buy.on RM.
Start looking at holiday rentals....you can put I'm swimming pool, gardens etc etc Try airbnb for a start. You still get pictures and descriptions....just do it with a pretend holiday budget instead.

I'd settle for being able to search by postcode right now. I'm sure you used to be able to, but if I put in a postcode now, it says place not recognized.

Odd, I just tried it and it works for me. I put the first part of the postcode into the find UK property for sale large search bar and then when the next page came up pressed the find properties button.

RM is hopeless. The only thing more embarrassing is the EA's who complain about being held to ransom by RM but who lack the will/skill to build a proper replacement with the features buyers really want.

The RM search is next to useless. You add a particular filter like, say, view, but when you go to the map all properties get displayed. I have told them but they're not interested. And when EA's complain - just laugh at them and shake your head.

I just wish you could filter out auction properties.

I just wish you could filter normal sales from auction sales.

I'd love to have a search feature for amount of downstairs reception rooms. We only need two bedrooms upstairs but our ideal would be to have two downstairs plus living room and kitchen, but the searches are all bedroom amounts

Yes, I won't even consider a house if it doesn't have 2 separate reception rooms but its not a searchable option.

Just in case anyone from RM is checking in. I want....

to create search within x miles of Aldi, Waitrose, Station, Swimming Pool, Coast, etc
ability to see just those properties on a map
filter out auction, flood zone, subsidence risk, etc
£ per square foot/metre (or don't bother listing)
all lease and estate management terms
current utility bills
full floor plan with dimensions in both feet and metres
full narrated video walkthrough (see Gary from Longsons, Swaffam)

I may add more!

I want a garden filter and size added. I would only move to somewhere with a bigger garden than I have now. Currently you have to click on the pictures and scroll to see if there is a garden and, if so, what size. I would like to move at some point for better secondary catchments, but if that isn't possible, then definitely after. So not just stalking the neighbours.

Good call. I think that it should be a requirement that the LR details with plot plan are included, a bit like the way EPC's are supposed to be included.

Gettingcolder · 15/03/2024 15:19

I agree. Most overseas agents I have seen quote the square meterage of both the house and the garden. I would really like to see that along with house and plot plans.

It is possible to add key words to the search but then you can't accurately sort by price etc. so more features like garage, parking, sea view, etc would be helpful. Freehold/Leasehold should be stated and it should be possible to exclude non-mortgagable properties like park homes.

Yes, RM is really crap and it's been like that for over 10 years despite buyers asking for improvements.

To add to my list

  • don't automatically include retirement homes and buying schemes
  • provide a price history since first launched (saves having to use an extension on chrome)
  • stop allowing EA's to keep on reducing and increasing the price just to get it further up the viewing order,
  • Provide local stats for comparison, e.g. median price of completed sales for each property type, and median price per square foot/metre per property type, and an indicator of whether this property is above or below market averages.
  • copy the best bits of info from other countries like this ...
