Leicester/Loughborough/Nottingham

DH and I are looking to move to either Leicester, Loughborough or Nottingham.

Anyone have any advice on where in these areas are nicest. We'd rather be in a big town or city than somewhere rural. We have 750k maximum, we want good state schools, 4-5 bedrooms.

Where should we be looking?

I will choose Nottingham if you’re looking for a bigger city but then the floods that have happened consecutively the past year will steer me off buying in all 3 areas especially Nottingham.

Leicester is very studenty but also a decent city. Families tend to go to Oadby. It’s expensive but you can afford it with your budget.
I like Wigston as well

Loughborough has a village/town feel to it.
Not much to do. I personally wouldn’t live there.
I have cousins here who love it but I am a born and raised city girl and I just can’t function in a small town.

Sorry I can’t offer much advice than this but this is all I know

West Bridgford , Ruddington, Edwalton, Gamston. 2 to 3 miles from centre of Nottingham, great transport links to city centre , loads of facilities and clubs / sports, restaurants, bars and excellent primary and secondary schools. Right side of Nottingham for access to Leicester and Loughborough. 750k decent budget for 4/5 bed house.

That’s a huge budget there. Our relative trying to sell a lovely house in a posh village near Ashby de la Zouche is likely only to get 490k for a 4 bed detached

Think Nottingham itself has avoided floods, tended to be the rural areas affected. DS lives there and is concerned that the financial issues of the city council may affect the excellent public transport service.

I live in Nottingham in what was a grim area but doing a bit better. Some bits of the city are bloody awful but you could afford a house in West Bridgeford or other areas that are much better. I will say the flooding has been dire in Notts as pointed out by another poster. I quite like Leicester and Loughborough is actually very nice but is a town very easy to get to Leicester, Nottingham or Derby from there.

There was a reason Nottingham was called Shottingham a few years ago. One of my mates is a police officer, in the area those poor students and the caretaker were murdered last year and my other mate though she has relocated now was a nurse in QMC A&E there is like any city a big underbelly that is really awful but without it being a really big cosmopolitan city like London or Birmingham, I have lived in both of them. Nottingham is more like a very big town.
