House Sale Fell Through How Do I Stay Sane?

A quick recap of my situation.

We put our house (in Scotland) on the market last May. It sold during August to a lovely English couple who were selling tenanted property to buy. The sale process went on and on, we were reassured that the English system takes longer than Scotland and were told at the beginning of November to start packing to move.

On the last week of November it came to light that my buyers, buyer had went AWOL just before completion. They still want our property but were so embarrassed by the situation they urged us to go back on the market.

The owner of property we successfully had an offer accepted on has stayed off the market for us up until now but is planning to go back onto the market in April. I don't blame her for this she has been so understanding with us.

We contacted our original buyers in January and they have reassured us they still intend on buying our property when they can.

We have had a few viewings since but nothing has come of them.

I know I have to just get on with it but the anxiety and stress is overwhelming. Everyday I'm waiting for the phone to ring and can't push past that feeling.

Just looking for advice on how to deal with how I am feeling. I have 2 DC under 4 and can't keep on like this.

Moving house is THE most stressful thing ever.

I’m so sorry OP, this all sounds hugely stressful. I could be barking up the wrong tree here but if your original buyers are looking to sell a tenanted property, they could really be struggling to evict the tenants. The backlogs in the courts are insane and despite what shelter or others may say, it’s expensive, stressful, difficult and time consuming to evict someone. I hope things get better.

@DeeplyMovingExperience They have originally marketed the property as coming with the tenents.

Their original buyer was fine with this and even sent their renters a letter explaining he was the new landlord.

But then the week before completion he changed his mind and insisted the tenents be removed from the property 😞 and then vanished.

I have heard from my solicitor they have since put a second property up for sale to try and speed the process up but still bo news.

It's so stressful isn't it? Just wanted you to know you aren't alone. Our sale has fallen through twice now. We're back on the market and the house we were buying is currently waiting for us but I'm not sure for how long. Fingers crossed for you.

@Kentlane It is so frustrating. It is even more frustrating when we were so close half my house is packed up and I don't know whether to unpack or not.

Because we rarely hear of sales falling through in our area we also have a brand new sofa sitting in a warehouse that doesn't fit our actual house.

A lesson has been learnt by me not to rush into purchases until keys are in my hand.
